Antimicrobial drug proven successful against Corona

Hong Kong: Scientists in Hong Kong announced yesterday that a reasonably priced antimicrobial drug used to treat stomach ulcers and bacterial infections has shown promising results in the fight against coronavirus in animals. The researchers explored whether mineral drugs, compounds that contain minerals and are commonly used to fight bacteria, may also have antiviral properties that can fight SARS-Coved-2.

Using guinea pigs, researchers found that one of the drugs, Ranitidine bismuth citrate, was a “powerful factor in the fight against SARS-cove-2”. University of Hong Kong researcher Ranming Wang said during the study team’s presentation that Ranitidine bismuth citrate “is capable of reducing the viral load in the lung of an infected rat by tenfold.” Our findings show that this drug is a potential antiviral element in the case of Covid-19.”

أعلن علماء في هونج كونج أمس أن عقارًا مضادًا للميكروبات بسعر معقول يستخدم لعلاج قرحة المعدة والالتهابات البكتيرية أظهر نتائج واعدة في مكافحة فيروس كورونا في الحيوانات. وعمل الباحثون على استكشاف ما إذا كانت العقاقير المعدنية، المركبات التي تحتوي على معادن ويشاع استخدامها في مكافحة البكتيريا، قد يكون لها أيضًا خصائص مضادة للفيروسات يمكنها محاربة فيروس «سارس-كوفيد-2». باستخدام فئران في المختبر، وجد الباحثون أن أحد الأدوية، وهو رانيتيدين سيترات البزموت، شكّل «عاملًا قويًا لمكافحة سارس-كوف-2».

وقال الباحث بجامعة هونج كونج رانمينغ وانغ أثناء عرض الفريق الدراسة إن دواء رانيتيدين سترات البزموت «قادر على خفض الحِمل الفيروسي في رئة الفأر المصاب بمقدار عشرة أضعاف.. تُظهر النتائج التي توصلنا إليها أن هذا الدواء عامل مُحتمل مضاد للفيروسات في حالة كوفيد-19».
