The crew of a plane handcuffed a passenger in her seat with duct tape, after she tried to open the plane’s door mid-air and assaulted a flight attendant.
According to Monte Carlo International Radio, the incident occurred recently on an American Airlines flight from Dallas to Charlotte, and the passenger is believed to have suffered a bout of mental illness during the flight, which is supposed to take two to three hours.
“It was clear that something was happening at the front of the plane, the crew closed the bathroom doors, we saw the crew running in the plane to secure it,” passenger Ariana Mathena said, before the commander asked passengers to stick to their seats because “there’s a problem.”
After the plane landed, the photographs revealed that the passenger was tied to her seat with tape, which also had her mouth shut, and kept in place until all the passengers left, while medical staff were waiting for her outside.
American Airlines said in a statement that the passenger was restrained “after raising concerns of the crew.”
“During the flight from Dallas to Charlotte on July 6, the crew reported possible security concerns after a passenger tried to open the front door, physically assaulted the crew and injured a flight attendant,” the statement said, continuing, “For the safety and security of other clients and our crew, the passenger was restrained until the flight landed, where she was met by law enforcement and emergency personnel.”
The woman was taken to hospital for a mental health assessment, before being placed on the American Airlines banned list.

وبحسب إذاعة مونت كارلو الدولية فإن الواقعة حدثت مؤخرا على متن رحلة لشركة “أميركان إيرلاينز” من دالاس إلى شارلوت، كما يعتقد أن الراكبة كانت تعاني نوبة من مرض عقلي ما، خلال الرحلة التي يفترض أن تستغرق من ساعتين إلى 3 ساعات
وقالت الراكبة أريانا ماثينا إنه “كان من الواضح أن شيئا ما يحدث في مقدمة الطائرة، الطاقم أغلق أبواب الحمامات، رأينا الطاقم يركض في الطائرة لتأمينها”، قبل أن يطلب القائد من الركاب الالتزام بمقاعدهم لأن “هناك مشكلة”.
وبعد هبوط الطائرة، كشفت الصور أن الراكبة كانت مقيدة في مقعدها بالأشرطة اللاصقة، التي كممت فمها أيضا، وتم الإبقاء عليها في مكانها حتى غادر جميع الركاب، فيما كان طاقم طبي بانتظارها في الخارج.
وذكرت شركة “أميركان إيرلاينز” في بيان أن الراكبة كانت مقيدة “بعدما أثارت مخاوف طاقم الطائرة”.
وأوضح البيان “أثناء الرحلة من دالاس إلى شارلوت في 6 يوليو، أبلغ الطاقم عن مخاوف أمنية محتملة بعد أن حاول أحد الركاب فتح الباب الأمامي واعتدى على أفراد الطاقم جسديا وتسبب في إصابة مضيفة”، متابعا “من أجل سلامة وأمن العملاء الآخرين وطاقمنا، تم تقييد الراكبة حتى هبطت الرحلة، حيث قابلها موظفو إنفاذ القانون والطوارئ”.
كما تم نقل المرأة إلى المستشفى لإجراء تقييم لصحتها العقلية، قبل وضعها على قائمة المحظورين الخاصة بـ”أميركان إيرلاينز”
