Doha: Oman’s Ministry of Transport has announced that it is preparing soon to open the first land route linking Saudi Arabia and Oman.
“The first land road linking Saudi Arabia and Oman will be opened soon,” Salem Mohammed al-Nuaimi, undersecretary of Oman’s Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, said in an interview with Oman TV.
“Work is under way to establish the necessary facilities to provide services to its users,” Al-Nuaimi said, adding that “the road will not only extend for about 800 km between the two countries, but will also significantly reduce travel time”.
“The bulk of the road passes through Saudi Arabia and extends to some of the most difficult terrain in the world, including the Empty Quarter, as the road passes through the Empty Quarter and Al-Ahsa governorate in Saudi Arabia, and is about 160 km long in Oman, while about 580 km of it is located in the Saudi Kingdom,” he said.
The new road passes through the Omani oil fields through the “Tnam” area in the Wilayat of Ibri and connects it with the Empty Quarter in Saudi Arabia, adding: “This project is considered an engineering miracle, as it was built through the sands of the largest desert in the world.”
The only current route connecting Oman to Saudi Arabia is about 1,638 km long and passes through the UAE for a journey of between 16 and 18 hours.

الدوحة: أعلنت وزارة النقل في سلطنة عُمان أنها تستعد قريباً لافتتاح أول طريق يربط بين السعودية والسلطنة.
وقال وكيل وزارة النقل والاتصالات وتكنولوجيا المعلومات في سلطنة عُمان، سالم محمد النعيمي، في مقابلة مع “تلفزيون عُمان”: إنه “سيتم افتتاح أول طريق يربط بين السعودية وسلطنة عُمان، قريباً”، موضحاً أن “الطريق يعد شبه مكتمل”.
ولفت النعيمي إلى أنه “جارٍ الآن العمل على إنشاء المرافق اللازمة لتقديم الخدمات لمستخدميه”، مشيراً إلى أن “الطريق لن يقطع المسافة بين البلدين بنحو 800 كم فحسب، بل سيقلل أيضاً من وقت السفر بشكل كبير”.
وكشف الوكيل العُماني أن “الجزء الأكبر من الطريق يمر عبر السعودية، ويمتد إلى بعض من أصعب التضاريس في العالم، بما في ذلك الربع الخالي، إذ يمر الطريق عبر الربع الخالي ومحافظة الأحساء في السعودية، ويبلغ طوله في عُمان نحو 160 كم، بينما يقع نحو 580 كم منه في المملكة”.
والطريق الجديد يمر عبر حقول النفط العُمانية عبر منطقة “تنام” في ولاية عبري ويربطها مع الربع الخالي في السعودية، مضيفاً: “يعتبر هذا المشروع معجزة هندسية؛ إذ تم إنشاؤه عبر رمال أكبر صحراء في العالم”.
والطريق الوحيد الحالي الذي يصل عُمان بالسعودية يبلغ طوله نحو 1638 كم، ويمر عبر الإمارات العربية المتحدة لتصل مدة الرحلة إلى ما بين 16 و18 ساعة.
