Canada to Receive More Refugees this Year

Ottawa: The Canadian authorities announced that they have decided to increase the number of refugees that will be received in the country this year, to about 45,000 people.
Canadian Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Marco Mendicino said in statements that his country will accept more refugees and their families this year as part of its efforts to solve a global crisis, adding that Canada will receive nearly twice the number of people covered by protection, who have applied for asylum and obtained refugee status, after arriving in the country, as well as their first-degree relatives abroad.
He revealed that the new target number is 45,000, compared to 23,500 refugees last year, expressing the hope of his country’s authorities to facilitate the travel of refugee family members, taking into account clearly the travel restrictions in force in the world.
Canada resettled more than 30,000 refugees in 2019 and more than 9,000 last year amid the global pandemic.

أوتاوا: أعلنت السلطات الكندية أنها قررت زيادة عدد اللاجئين الذين سيتم استقبالهم في البلاد خلال العام الجاري ليبلغ نحو 45 ألف شخص.
وقال السيد ماركو ميندتشينو وزير الهجرة واللاجئين والجنسية الكندي، في تصريحات، إن بلاده ستقبل المزيد من اللاجئين وأسرهم هذا العام في إطار جهودها لحل أزمة عالمية، مضيفا أن كندا ستستقبل ما يقارب ضعف عدد الأشخاص المشمولين بالحماية، وهم من تقدموا بطلبات لجوء وحصلوا على وضع لاجئ بعد الوصول إلى البلاد، وكذلك أقاربهم من الدرجة الأولى في الخارج.
وكشف أن العدد الجديد المستهدف هو 45 ألفا مقارنة بـ 23500 لاجئ العام الماضي، معربا عن أمل سلطات بلاده في تسهيل سفر أفراد أسر اللاجئين مع الأخذ في الاعتبار بشكل واضح قيود السفر السارية في العالم.
يذكر أن وزارة الهجرة واللاجئين الكندية كانت قد حددت في عام 2020 عدد اللاجئين الذين سيتم ايوائهم بالبلاد بنحو 23 ألفا و500 لاجئ.
