Doha: The results of a study by a group of researchers at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, USA, revealed that the ideal time for a coronavirus test is 2 p.m. because viral load may be higher at this time of day.
The study, published in the French journal Femme Actuelle, suggests that polymerase chain reaction tests for coronavirus are very reliable, but in some cases these tests can give false negative results; This is due to taking the sample the wrong way, early or too late, according to Al-Jazeera
In the Polymerase chain reaction PCR, samples are taken from the saliva of the throat, or a sample of the lung abscess, and through a chemical process the virus genome is monitored in the sample taken, and if detected, this means that the person is infected with coronavirus.
However, if the genetic code of the virus is not found, it does not mean that the person is not infected, it is very likely that the virus is present in the body but has not reached the sample that was extracted.
The study indicated that viral load varies depending on the time of day; therefore, it may be easier to detect the coronavirus in the afternoon.
“This observation is consistent with earlier findings with other viruses such as influenza, herpes and dengue fever, where interactions with the immune system lead to daily variations in virus secretion and symptoms,” the study authors noted.
Viral load is the amount of viruses in a person infected with coronavirus, which develops over time, and is particularly high two days before and two days after the onset of the virus symptoms.
This new study also suggests that viral load also changes throughout the day, as researchers have observed a rise in positive results in the afternoon, so it will be easy to detect the coronavirus at this time of day.
