Doha: Britain has approved a rapid coronavirus test that gives a result in just 20 seconds, the Daily Mail revealed.
UK start-up iAbra said on Friday this test was given approval by the Britain’s medicine regulator after it was trialled at Heathrow Airport.
According to the Daily Mail, The test involves a saliva swab of the inner-cheeks, unlike the more commonly used nose and tonsil swabs, which can be uncomfortable.
Swabs are inserted into a cartridge, that goes into the coffee machine-sized device, which scours the sample for Covid-19. Inside the machine is a digital camera attached to a microscope that examines the sample and runs it through a computer programmed to spot the virus.
Users take their own sample and only one trained person is needed to operate the machine. Each screening device is capable of carrying out hundreds of tests per day.
According to the company, the accuracy of the device in spotting Covid-positive people is 98 %.
The test was trialled at Heathrow airport and its performance was compared to the gold-standard PCR tests, which can take several days to produce results, and both test results’ turned out to be the same.

وذكرت شركة ” iAbra “، اليوم الجمعة، أن الاختبار حصل على موافقة الهيئة الطبية العليا في بريطانيا، بعدما تم تجربته في مطار هيثرو اللندني بنجاح .
وحسب “ديلي ميل” يتضمن الاختبار مسحة من اللعاب من الخدين الداخليين، على عكس مسحات الأنف واللوزتين الأكثر شيوعًا، والتي قد تكون غير مريحة.
ويتم إدخال المسحات في جهاز بحجم ماكينة القهوة، والذي يقوم بتنظيف العينة بحثًا عن فيروس كورونا، كما يوجد داخل الجهاز كاميرا رقمية متصلة بمجهر تقوم بفحص العينة من خلال جهاز كمبيوتر مبرمج لاكتشاف الفيروس.
ويأخذ المستخدمون العينة الخاصة بهم، ويحتاجون إلى شخص مدرب واحد فقط لتشغيل الجهاز، وكل جهاز فحص قادر على إجراء مئات الاختبارات في اليوم.
وحسب الشركة، وصلت دقة الجهاز في الكشف عن الأشخاص المصابين بالفيروس إلى 98 في المائة.
وتم اختبار المنتج في مطار هيثرو، وتمت مقارنة آدائه باختبارات PCR، والتي قد تستغرق عدة أيام لتظهر نتائجها، واتضح أنه مشابه لها في النتيجة.
