Doha: In response to a promotional campaign for a restaurant in Taiwan, about 100 people registered to formally change their names to ‘Salmon’ to get their favorite sushi meal for free.
A Taiwanese restaurant chain announced Monday that it will give free sushi to anyone whose name includes two letters meaning “salmon” in Chinese when put together, and a person, can get up to five free meals, as long as he can prove the name change using their ID card., according to CNN Arabic, citing the official Taiwan’s Central News Agency.
Taiwan’s Ministry of Interior intervened in the situation, urging people to think carefully before changing their names after the applications increased for this matter.
According to the country’s name-related law, people have the right to change their names only three times. In theory, this means that someone may remain stuck with the name of their choice.
In a Facebook post, the restaurant chain said it would also offer lower-level discounts to anyone who added only one Chinese character to their name as part of the promotion, the agency said.
This promotional campaign led to people rushing to change their names at family registration offices across Taiwan.
A man, who changed his name on Wednesday, reportedly told officials that he planned to change his name again once he benefited from the promotion.
Another registration office said it had succeeded in discouraging another man from changing his name, while a third said that a different man had proceeded with the process of changing his official name to “Salmon”, although he had already changed his name once before. According to the agency.

الدوحة: استجابة لحملة ترويجية لأحد المطاعم في تايوان، قام حوالي 100 شخص بتسجيل أنفسهم من أجل تغيير أسمائهم بشكل رسمي إلى (سلمون) للحصول على وجبة السوشي المفضلة لهم مجاناً.
وأعلنت سلسلة مطاعم تايوانية الإثنين أنها ستمنح السوشي المجاني لأي شخص يتضمن اسمه حرفين يعنيان “سمك السلمون” في اللغة الصينية عند وضعهما معاً، ويمكن للشخص، بالإضافة إلى ما يصل إلى خمسة ضيوف، الحصول على وجبة مجاناً طالما تمكن الشخص من إثبات تغيير الاسم باستخدام بطاقة الهوية الرسمية، وذلك بحسب “سي إن إن العربية، نقلاً عن وكالة الأنباء المركزية التايوانية الرسمية.
وتدخلت وزارة الداخلية في تايوان الأربعاء في الموقف، وحثت الأشخاص على التفكير ملياً قبل تغيير أسمائهم بعد زيادة تقديم الطلب لهذا الأمر.
ووفقاً للقانون الذي يختص بالأسماء في البلاد، يحق للأشخاص تغيير أسمائهم ثلاث مرات فقط. ومن الناحية النظرية، يعني ذلك أنه قد يظل شخصٌ ما عالقاً بالاسم الذي يختاره.
وفي منشور على موقع “فيسبوك”، قالت سلسلة المطاعم إنها ستقدم أيضاً تخفيضات ذات مستوى أقل لأي شخص أضاف واحداً فقط من الحرفين الصينيين إلى اسمه كجزء من الترويج، وفقاً لما ذكرته الوكالة.
وأدت هذه الحملة الترويجية إلى اندفاع الأشخاص لتغيير أسمائهم في مكاتب تسجيل الأسر في جميع أنحاء تايوان.
وبحسب ما ورد، قال رجل، قام بتغيير اسمه الأربعاء، للمسؤولين إنه يعتزم على تغيير اسمه مرة أخرى بمجرد أن يستفيد من العرض الترويجي.
وقال مكتب تسجيل آخر إنه نجح في ثني رجل آخر عن تغيير اسمه، بحسب ما ذكرته الوكالة، بينما قال مكتب ثالث إن رجلاً مختلفاً مضى قدماً في عملية تغيير اسمه الرسمي إلى “سلمون” رغم تغييره لاسمه بالفعل مرة واحدة من قبل.
