Russia Confirms First Case of Human Infection with H5N8 Strain of Bird Flu

Moscow: Russia confirmed the first case of human infection with the H5N8 strain of the influenza A virus, which causes bird flu.

“The World Health Organization has been informed of the first case of human infection with the H5N8 strain of the Avian influenza A virus, which was confirmed in a laboratory,” Anna Popova. Head of the Federal Service for the Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare said.

She added that scientists isolated the genetic material of this kind of bird flu in seven workers of a poultry farm in the south of the Russian Federation, where an outbreak in bird population was recorded in December 2020. “All seven people are in good health, the clinical course of the disease was very mild,” she said.

Popova emphasized that all measures have been taken to protect people and animals.

وأضافت أن العلماء قاموا بأخذ المادة الوراثية لهذه الإنفلونزا من سبعة موظفين يعملون في مزرعة دواجن، جنوبي روسيا، حيث تم تسجيل التفشي بين الطيور الداجنة في ديسمبر 2020، مشيرة إلى أن الأشخاص السبعة حالتهم جيدة، وقد بدت عليهم أعراض سريرية خفيفة للغاية.

وأكدت أنه تم اتخاذ كافة التدابير والإجراءات لحماية الناس والحيوانات، وأن الأمر لم يتطور أبعد من ذلك.
