German official plays “Candy Crush” during meeting with Merkel and provokes a storm of criticism

Doha: A German official has sparked widespread criticism after admitting via a chat app that he was playing “Candy Crush” on his phone during online meetings dedicated to pandemic response efforts with Chancellor Angela Merkel.
According to Euronews, Bodo Ramello, president of the eastern German state of Thuringia, made the admission at the weekend during what he thought was a closed-door meeting on the “Clubhouse” voice chat app, in which you can join the conversations by invitation only.
The politician from Die Linke said: “During the often hours-long sessions, “some people play Sudoku, others play chess or scrabble on their phones, but I play Candy Crush,” according to reports in German media.
At a press conference in Berlin on Monday, Merkel’s spokesman Stefen Zeibert sarcastically said the news “speaks for itself and does not need further comments.”
Armin Lachet, head of Merkel’s conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU), said he was not playing at the online conferences on the epidemic “because they are about very important issues.”
“We are discussing fundamental infringements of fundamental rights… In schools, education and economics, you have to participate with full focus.”
Thuringia’s Interior Minister Jörg Meyer of the Social Democratic Party told R&D that Ramello “must reconsider his behaviour.”
Ramello and other officials strongly criticized Merkel’s proposals to tighten closure measures at a crucial meeting on the epidemic in October, weeks before a significant increase in cases of the new CORONA virus.
But Ramello later regretted that the chancellor was right to press for tougher action.

ووفق موقع “يورونيوز” فقد أدلى بودو راميلو رئيس ولاية تورينغن في شرق ألمانيا، بهذا الاعتراف في عطلة نهاية الأسبوع خلال ما كان يظنه اجتماعا مغلقا على تطبيق “كلوبهاوس” للدردشة الصوتية الذي يمكن الانضمام إلى الأحاديث الدائرة عليه من خلال دعوة فقط.
وقال السياسي من حزب “دي لينكه” اليساري إنه خلال الجلسات التي تستمر لساعات في كثير من الأحيان، “يلعب بعض الأشخاص لعبة سودوكو، والبعض الآخر يلعب الشطرنج أو سكرابل على هواتفهم، أما أنا فألعب كاندي كراش”، وفقا لتقارير نشرتها وسائل إعلام ألمانية.
وفي مؤتمر صحفي عقده في برلين الإثنين، قال المتحدث باسم ميركل شتيفن زايبرت ساخرا إن الخبر المذكور “يتحدث عن نفسه ولا يحتاج إلى مزيد من التعليقات”.
وقال أرمين لاشيت رئيس حزب الاتحاد الديمقراطي المسيحي المحافظ الذي تتزعمه ميركل، إنه لم يكن يلعب خلال المؤتمرات الإلكترونية المخصصة لشؤون الوباء “لأنها تتمحور حول مسائل بالغة الأهمية”.
وأكد للصحفيين في برلين “نناقش التعديات الجوهرية على الحقوق الأساسية… في المدارس والتعليم والاقتصاد ويجب أن تشارك بتركيز كامل”.
وقال وزير داخلية ولاية تورينغن يورغ ماير من الحزب الديمقراطي الاشتراكي، لمحطة “أر أن دي” إن راميلو “يجب أن يعيد النظر في سلوكه”.
وحمل راميلو ومسؤولون آخرون بشدة على مقترحات ميركل لتشديد تدابير الإغلاق في اجتماع حاسم بشأن الوباء في أكتوبر، قبل أسابيع من ازدياد كبير في حالات الإصابة بفيروس كورونا المستجد.
لكن راميلو أعرب لاحقا عن أسفه مقراً بأن المستشارة كانت محقة في الضغط من أجل اتخاذ إجراءات أكثر صرامة.
