Doha: An epidemiologist has revealed one of the new and “strange” symptoms of the new coronavirus Covid 19, calling for attention and for the classification of this symptom as a major one in the epidemic that is spreading globally.
Professor Tim Spector, professor of genetic epidemiology at King’s College London and head of the Covid 19 Symptom Study Application, warned in a post on his Twitter account three days ago of what he called “Covid Tongue”, adding a shocking picture of what the strange symptom looks like, Russia website reported yesterday.
Symptoms of Coronavirus usually include high temperature, severe cough and loss of sense of taste and smell. But Spector says about 20% of all patients show signs that are not on the government’s official list of CORONA symptoms.
Spector used the post on Twitter to urge the public to stay at home if they feel unwell, even if it’s just a state of fatigue, saying: “One in five people with Covid still have less common symptoms that don’t appear on the official corona symptoms list, such as new rashes or sores in the mouth.”
He added: “There are increasing numbers of Covid Tongue and strange sores in the mouth. If you have strange symptoms or even just headaches and fatigue, stay home.”
Gabrielle Scully, a public health doctor and head of epidemiology and public health at the Royal Society of Medicine, told The Sun that the virus could produce “effects on such a wide range of body systems,” adding that the symptoms in the mouth had been determined by its relationship with Covid -19 for some time.
Some diseases that affect the immune system may attack the tongue, causing changes including pain, discoloration, swelling or a strange texture. Tongue problems can also be the result of poor oral hygiene, smoking or an unhealthy diet.
Mouth ulcers are very common and can be caused by a range of things, including food, hot drink, medications, stress, hormonal changes or vitamin deficiencies.
Experts help identify common symptoms in people who have a positive test for the Covid-19, as well as track the extent of the outbreak.
Aches, sore throats, diarrhea, conjunctivitis, headaches, loss of taste or smell, new rashes and discoloration of fingers or toes are all listed as less common symptoms of MERS-CoV by WHO.
A Reuters count today showed that more than 93.62 million people worldwide were infected with CORONA, while the total number of deaths from the virus reached 2.6 million. Virus infections have been reported in more than 210 countries and regions since the first cases were detected in China in December 2019.

وتشمل أعراض فيروس كورونا عادة ارتفاعاً في درجة الحرارة والسعال الجديد وفقدان حاسة التذوق والشم. لكن سبيكتور يقول إن نحو 20% من جميع المرضى تظهر عليهم علامات غير مدرجة في القائمة الرسمية للحكومة لأعراض فيروس كورونا.
واستخدم سبيكتور المنشور على “تويتر” لحث الجمهور على البقاء في المنزل إذا شعروا بتوعك، حتى لو كانت مجرد حالة من التعب، قائلاً: “واحد من كل 5 أشخاص مصابين بكوفيد لا يزال يعاني من أعراض أقل شيوعاً لا تظهر في قائمة أعراض كورونا الرسمية، مثل الطفح الجلدي الجديد أو تقرحات في الفم”.

وقالت غابرييل سكالي، طبيبة الصحة العامة ورئيسة علم الأوبئة والصحة العامة في الجمعية الملكية للطب، لصحيفة “ذي صن” البريطانية إن الفيروس يمكن أن ينتج “تأثيرات في مثل هذا النطاق الواسع من أجهزة الجسم”، مضيفة أن الأعراض في الفم وقع تحديد علاقتها بـ”كوفيد-19” منذ بعض الوقت.
وقد تهاجم بعض الأمراض التي تؤثر على الجهاز المناعي اللسان مسببة تغيرات تشمل الألم أو تغير اللون أو التورم أو قواماً غريباً. ويمكن أن تكون مشاكل اللسان أيضاً نتيجة لسوء نظافة الفم أو التدخين أو اتباع نظام غذائي غير صحي.
وتقرحات الفم شائعة جداً ويمكن أن تنتج عن مجموعة من الأشياء، بما في ذلك الطعام أو الشراب الساخن أو الأدوية أو الإجهاد أو التغيرات الهرمونية أو نقص الفيتامينات.
