Report on the anniversary of the first coronavirus death and the statistics we have reached today

Doha: The first death from the new coronavirus was recorded in Wuhan, China, a year ago, as the state of China tried hard to get rid of its image as the first epicentre of the Covid -19 epidemic.

The epidemic, which has claimed more than 1.9 million lives worldwide, Chinese authorities since the spring was able to control the emerging coronavirus in Wuhan to a large extent, with the official national toll remaining at 4,636 since mid-May.

 The first quarantine area is the central Chinese city of Wuhan, where the quarantine began on 23 January 2020. “The population is well aware of the protective measures, even my grandson puts a muzzle when he comes out, and he’s only two years old,” said a 60 years old man named Xiong Liansheng.

China faced much criticism for its handling of the epidemic at the beginning of its spread, and police accused some doctors of spreading rumors about the virus.

The name of the first known victim of the epidemic has not been announced, all we know is that he is a 61-year-old man who used to go to the Huanan Shopping Market. On 1 January 2020, the authorities shut down this market, the first major epicentre of the epidemic, where live wild animals intended for consumption were sold, possibly the ones that transmitted the virus to humans. The market was still closed Monday behind a long fence.

A team of experts from the World Health Organization (WHO) arrives in China on Thursday to investigate the origin of the Covid -19 epidemic, after their visit, originally scheduled for last week, was postponed because they did not obtain the necessary permits from the Chinese authorities. In recent days, a limited new epicentre of the epidemic has been recorded in Beijing’s Habai county, where nearly 100 cases have been reported in the last 24 hours, the highest number nationwide since July. Eighteen million people in two vast regions are prohibited from leaving their municipal boundaries.

As for the new statistics on the number of Covid-19 cases, as of late October, it was about 45 million. As of Sunday afternoon, Johns Hopkins had counted about 90,005,787 cases worldwide.

The United States, with more than 22.2 million infections, topped the world with the highest number of cases recorded since the beginning of the global epidemic.  The number of infections in the United States was more than double that of India, which recorded nearly 10.5 million infections.

الدوحة: سجلت أول وفاة جراء فيروس كورونا المستجد في ووهان الصينية قبل عام من اليوم، حيث حاولت دولة الصين جاهدة للتخلص من صورتها على أنها البؤرة الأولى لوباء كوفيد-19.

ذلك الوباء الذي أسفر عن وفاة أكثر من 1,9 مليون شخص في العالم، حيث تمكنت السلطات الصينية منذ الربيع من السيطرة إلى حد بعيد على فيروس كورونا المستجد في ووهان كما في بقية البلاد وتبقى الحصيلة الوطنية الرسمية بمستوى 4636 وفاة منذ منتصف أيار/مايو.

ويذكر أن أول منطقة فرض فيها الحجر الصحي هي مدينة ووهان في وسط الصين والتي بدأ بها الحجر اعتبارا من 23 كانون الثاني/يناير 2020. وقال رجل ستيني يدعى كسيونغ ليانشينغ يومها أن: “السكان مدركون تماما لتدابير الوقاية، حتى حفيدي يضع كمامة حين يخرج، وعمره لا يتعدى السنتين”.

وواجهت الصين انتقادات كثيرة لطريقة تعاملها مع الوباء في بداية انتشاره، واتهمت الشرطة بعض الأطباء بنشر الشائعات حول الفيروس.

ولم يتم الإعلان عن اسم أول ضحية معروفة للوباء، كل ما نعرفه أنه رجل في الـ61 من العمر كان يقصد سوق هوانان للتبضع. وفي الأول من كانون الثاني/يناير 2020، أغلقت السلطات هذه السوق التي تعتبر أول بؤرة كبرى للوباء وكانت تباع فيها حيوانات برية حية معدة للاستهلاك من المحتمل أن تكون هي التي نقلت الفيروس إلى البشر. وكانت السوق لا تزال مغلقة الإثنين خلف سور طويل.

ويصل فريق خبراء من منظمة الصحة العالمية الخميس إلى الصين للتحقيق في منشأ وباء كوفيد-19، بعدما أرجئت زيارتهم المقررة بالأساس الأسبوع الماضي لعدم حصولهم على التراخيص الضرورية من السلطات الصينية. وسجلت في الأيام الأخيرة بؤرة جديدة محدودة للوباء في محافظة هاباي المحيطة ببكين، حيث أعلن الإثنين عن حوالي مئة إصابة خلال الساعات الـ 24 الأخيرة، وهو أعلى رقم على الصعيد الوطني منذ تموز/يوليو. ويحظر على 18 مليون شخص في منطقتين شاسعتين الخروج من حدود بلدياتهم.

وأما بالنسبة للإحصائيات الجديدة المتعلقة بعدد الإصابات بكوفيد-19، بلغت حتى أواخر أكتوبر نحو45 مليونًا. وأحصى جون هوبكنز حتى بعد ظهر يوم الأحد، حوالي 90،005،787 إصابة حول العالم.

وتصدرت الولايات المتحدة، مع أكثر من 22.2 مليون إصابة، العالم بأكبر عدد من الإصابات المسجلة منذ بداية الوباء العالمي. وكان عدد الإصابات في الولايات المتحدة أكثر من ضعف مثيله في الهند التي سجلت ما يقرب من 10.5 مليون إصابة.
