A Waste oil dumpsite in Aba Saleel

Doha: The space located east of Aba Saleel Industrial Area, specifically at coordinate (25°07›51.9 N 51°25›55.3 E) has turned into the largest random dump for used oils and petroleum products in the country in a way that reflects the absence of oversight from the concerned authorities over the land areas. Where the spread of oil stains and used petroleum products in separate distances on the site shows that the perpetrators repeated their action several times over a period of weeks or months.

Al-Raya monitored the situation of the random dump during a field tour in the wild areas located near the industrial projects and facilities, and monitored the spread of dozens of plastic tanks and barrels used for transporting petroleum products and used oils that were randomly disposed of, which led to the leakage of these materials into the soil and the spread of oil stains over vast distances, as well as the spread of a pungent and foul odor.

This comes despite the keenness of the concerned authorities to announce safe ways to dispose of used oils and petroleum products, by going to the Radiation and Chemicals Protection Department (Hazardous Waste Section) and submitting a form to dispose of those wastes, as well as the availability of recycling plants.

All of this raises the question about the control of the concerned authorities of the industrial and construction zones and their surroundings which are often turned into landfills by violaters.

الدوحة: تحوّلت المساحاتُ الفضاءُ الواقعة شرق صناعية أبا صليل وبالتحديد في الإحداثية (25°07›51.9 N 51°25›55.3 E ) إلى أكبر مكبّ عشوائي للزيوت والمواد البترولية المستعملة بالدولة في صورة تعكس غياب الرقابة من الجهات المعنية على المناطق البرية، حيث يظهر من انتشار بقع الزيت والمواد البترولية المستعملة في مسافات متفرقة بالموقع أن المتسببين بها كرّروا فعلتهم عدة مرات على مدى أسابيع أو أشهر.

الراية رصدت حال المكبّ العشوائي أثناء جولة ميدانية بالمناطق البرية الواقعة بالقرب من المشاريع والمنشآت الصناعية، ورصدت انتشارَ عشرات الخزانات البلاستيكية والبراميل المُستخدمة في نقل المواد البترولية والزيوت المستعملة التي تم التخلص منها بطريقة عشوائية، ما أدّى إلى تسرُّب هذه المواد إلى التربة وانتشار بقع الزيت على مسافات شاسعة في المكان، فضلًا عن انتشار رائحة نفّاذة وكريهة.

ويأتي هذا رغم حرص الجهات المعنية على الإعلان عن الطرق الآمنة للتخلّص من الزيوت والموادّ البترولية المستعملة، عبر التوجّه إلى إدارة الوقاية من الإشعاع والموادّ الكيميائية (قسم النفايات الخطرة) وتقديم استمارة تخلص من تلك النفايات، فضلًا عن توفر مصانع خاصة بإعادة تدوير تلك الزيوت. كل ذلك يثير التساؤل حول رقابة الجهات المعنية، للمناطقَ الصناعية والمناطق الخاصة بالإنشاءات التي غالبًا ما يحوّل المخالفون محيطها إلى مكبات للمخلفات.
