WHO: 2021 is the year of victory over the Coronavirus

Doha: Coinciding with the hopes put on vaccines against the Coronavirus, the World Health Organization expected that 2021 will witness a victory over the pandemic, which has killed more than a million and a half people around the world.

“It is important to maintain low rates of infection during the vaccination process, but this depends on people’s behavior, and a sense of responsibility towards the danger of the virus,” said WHO spokeswoman Margaret Harris in a statement to the BBC.

She added: “The vaccine is only effective if infection rates decrease, and then we can say that humans have triumphed over the epidemic.”

A Reuters statistic showed that more than 84 million people were infected with the emerging coronavirus worldwide, while the total number of deaths resulting from the virus reached 1 million 829384 deaths.

Covid-19 infections have been recorded in more than 210 countries and regions since the first cases were discovered in China, in December 2019.

الدوحة: تزامنا مع الآمال المعقودة على اللقاحات ضد فيروس كورونا،  توقعت منظمة الصحة العالمية، أن يشهد عام 2021 انتصارا على الجائحة والتي أودت بحياة أكثر من مليون ونصف مصاب حول العالم.

وقالت المتحدثة باسم المنظمة مارغريت هاريس في تصريح لـ”بي بي سي”: “من المهم الحفاظ على معدلات منخفضة للعدوى أثناء عملية التطعيم، لكن هذا يعتمد على سلوك الناس، والإحساس بالمسؤولية تجاه خطر الفيروس”.

وأضافت: “اللقاح لا يكون فعالا إلا إذا انخفضت معدلات العدوى، وعندها نستطيع أن نقول إن الإنسان قد انتصر على الوباء”.

وأظهر إحصاء لوكالة رويترز أن أكثر من 84 مليون نسمة أصيبوا بفيروس كورونا المستجد على مستوى العالم، في حين وصل إجمالي عدد الوفيات الناتجة عن الفيروس إلى مليون و829384 وفاة.

وتم تسجيل إصابات بالفيروس في أكثر من 210 دول ومناطق منذ اكتشاف أولى حالات الإصابة في الصين، في ديسمبر/كانون الأول 2019.
