33 new billionaires in the U.S. during the Coronavirus pandemic

Doha: A US report showed an increase in the size of the wealth of 647 American billionaires, worth about 960 billion dollars, since the start of the emerging Coronavirus pandemic.

The report, which was conducted by the American Studies Institute in cooperation with two non-governmental organizations, sheds light on the class differences that the pandemic has contributed to deepening within American society.

The report said – according to “Euro news” – the United States witnessed the emergence of 33 new billionaires during the pandemic period.

Millions of Americans – including financial experts – are calling on Congress to pass a new aid package that helps those affected financially by the pandemic.

The report estimates the total value of US billionaires’ wealth at $ 4 trillion, which indicates the “failure of policies” of the US economy.

Chuck Collins, director of the Class Inequality Program at the Institute for the Study of Policy, told Newsweek: “These numbers mean that a lot of society’s wealth is flowing into very few hands.”

The report blamed 12 companies for “inequality” in American society, especially Amazon, Walmart and Blackstone.

“The success of these businesses has not translated into better wages or safer working conditions for employees working in pandemic conditions,” the report added.

الدوحة: أظهر تقرير أمريكي زيادة في حجم ثروات 647 مليارديراً أمريكياً بقيمة حوالي 960 مليار دولار منذ بدء جائحة فيروس كورونا المستجد.

ويأتي التقرير، الذي أجراه معهد الدراسات الأمريكي بالتعاون مع منظمتين غير حكوميتين، ليلقي الضوء على الفوارق الطبقية التي ساهمت الجائحة في تعميقها داخل المجتمع الأمريكي.

وقال التقرير – بحسب موقع “يورونيوز” – إن الولايات المتحدة شهدت ظهور 33 مليارديراً جديداً خلال فترة الجائحة.

ويطالب الملايين من الأمريكيين – من بينهم خبراء ماليون – الكونغرس بتمرير حزمة مساعدات جديدة تساعد المتضررين مالياً جراء الجائحة.

ويقدر التقرير القيمة الإجمالية لثروات المليارديرات الأمريكيين بـ 4 ترليون دولار، وهو ما يشير إلى “فشل سياسات” الاقتصاد الأمريكي.

تشاك كولينز، مدير برنامج التفاوت الطبقي لدى معهد دراسة السياسات قال لمجلة نيوزويك: “تلك الأرقام تعني أن الكثير من ثروات المجتمع تتدفق إلى عدد قليل جداً من الأيادي”.

وألقى التقرير باللوم على 12 شركة في “عدم المساواة” في المجتمع الأمريكي وفي مقدمتهم شركات أمازون وولمارت وبلاكستون.

واستطرد التقرير: “نجاح هذه الأعمال لم يترجم إلى أجور أفضل أو ظروف عمل أكثر أماناً للموظفين الذين يعملون في ظروف جائحة”.
