It is worth noting that Canada’s borders with the United States will remain closed until November 21st, according to a separate bilateral agreement with Washington, and only the transport of goods and travel deemed necessary is allowed, as it was decided to close the longest land border in the world in March and renewed every month since then. منح الإقامة الدائمة
كما تعتزم الحكومة الكندية منح الإقامة الدائمة لعمال مؤقتين وطالبي لجوء وطلبة أجانب موجودين في كندا، وذلك لتعويض تراجع عدد المهاجرين عام 2020.
وأوضح وزير الهجرة الكندي أن الوافدين الجدد لعبوا دورا مهما في التعامل مع أزمة كورونا، مشيدا خاصة بطالبي اللجوء الذين عملوا في الخط الأول في دور التقاعد المتضررة من الوباء خلال الربيع، مشيرا إلى “أن المهاجرين لهم أهمية حيوية في النظام الصحي الكندي، ويمثلون عاملا على أربعة في المستشفيات ودور التقاعد” وكشف أن ثلث أصحاب الشركات في كندا من المهاجرين، كما مثلت الهجرة 80 بالمئة من النمو الديمغرافي عام 2019 في كندا التي يقطنها حوالي 38 مليون نسمة.
وفي سياق منفصل كانت كندا قد أعلنت في وقت سابق ، الجمعة، تمديد إغلاق حدودها أمام الأجانب الذين لا يعتبر وجودهم ضروريا حتى نوفمبر، إضافة إلى إعفاءات من الحجر الصحي الإلزامي، كما للمرة الأولى رفع الحجر الصحي الإلزامي عن سكان بعض المناطق الكندية أو الأمريكية الواقعة داخل الأراضي الكندية لدى سفرهم إلى مناطق في البلد المجاور.
جدير بالذكر أن حدود كندا مع الولايات المتحدة ستظل مغلقة حتى 21 نوفمبر، وذلك بموجب اتفاقية ثنائية منفصلة مع واشنطن، ويُسمح فقط بنقل البضائع والسفر الذي يعد ضروريا، حيث إنه تقرر إغلاق أطول حدود برية في العالم في مارس وجدد كل شهر منذ ذلك الحين، في وقت سجلت كندا حتى الجمعة حوالى 232 ألف إصابة بفيروس كورونا وأكثر من 10100 حالة وفاة.
