Sudan’s Transitional Government Welcomes Trump’s Decision to Remove Sudan from List of State Sponsors of Terrorism

Khartoum: Sudan’s transitional government welcomed US President Donald Trump’s decision to remove Sudan from the US list of State Sponsors of Terrorism.
The Head of the Transitional Sovereign Council Lt-General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan expressed pleasure over the revocation of Sudan’s name from the list of the countries sponsoring terrorism, Sudan news agency (SUNA) reported.
Sudanese Prime Minister Dr. Abdulla Hamdouk expressed thanks to the US President for his intention to remove Sudan’s name.
“We very much look forward to your official notification to Congress rescinding the designation of Sudan as a state-sponsor of terrorism, which has cost Sudan too much,” Hamdouk said, adding “that notification are the strongest support to Sudan’s transition to democracy and to the Sudanese people.”
He also said that his country is about to get rid of the heaviest legacy of the previous regime, and that the Sudanese people are peace-loving people and have never supported terrorism.
The Sudanese Forces for Freedom and Change (FFC) also welcomed the decision, describing it as the beginning of moving on the right path to end the economic crises, integrate Sudan into the global economy and benefit from the efforts of friends and brothers in support of Sudan, paving the way for a major breakthrough for all Sudan’s agenda in regional and international forums.
The US President said on Twitter on Monday that removing Sudan from the list of State Sponsors of Terrorism is a big step for Sudan.
“New government of Sudan, which is making great progress, agreed to pay $335 million to US victims and families. Once deposited, I will lift Sudan from the State Sponsors of Terrorism list,” Trump tweeted.

الخرطوم: أعلنت الحكومة الانتقالية في السودان ترحيبها بقرار الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترامب الذي صدر /أمس/، بإزالة اسم السودان من القائمة الأمريكية للدول الراعية للإرهاب .
وعبر الفريق أول ركن عبدالفتاح البرهان رئيس مجلس السيادة الانتقالي عن تقدير بلاده للرئيس ترامب، لإقدامه على خطوة إزالة اسم السودان من قائمة الدول الراعية للإرهاب .
وفي ذات السياق أعرب الدكتور عبدالله حمدوك رئيس مجلس الوزراء الانتقالي في السودان في كلمة له: “عن شكره للرئيس الأمريكي على تطلعه إلى إلغاء تصنيف السودان كدولة راعية للإرهاب، وهو تصنيف كلف السودان وأضر به ضرارا بالغا”.
وأضاف “أننا نتطلع كثيرا إلى إخطاره الرسمي للكونغرس بذلك.. والذي يعتبر أقوى دعم للانتقال نحو الديمقراطية في السودان وللشعب السوداني”.. وقال إن بلاده تقترب من التخلص من أثقل تركة من تركات النظام السابق، وأن الشعب السوداني شعب محب للسلام ولم يكن أبدا يوما مساندا للإرهاب .
وفي ذات السياق رحبت قوى إعلان الحرية والتغيير السودانية بالقرار، ووصفت الخطوة بأنها تعتبر بداية للسير في الطريق الصحيح لإنهاء الأزمات الاقتصادية، واندماج السودان في الاقتصاد العالمي والاستفادة القصوى من مجهودات الأصدقاء والأشقاء الداعمة للسودان وتمهد لانفراج كبير لكافة أجندة السودان في المحافل الإقليمية والدولية.
تجدر الإشارة إلى أن الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترامب قال /أمس/، في تغريدة على موقع التواصل الاجتماعي “تويتر” إن رفع اسم السودان من قائمة الدول الراعية للإرهاب خطوة كبرى للسودان.. وأن حكومة السودان التي تحرز تقدما كبيرا وافقت على تحويل مبلغ 335 مليون دولار للضحايا الأمريكيين وأسرهم .
وقال الرئيس الأمريكي: “سيصدر قرار برفع اسم السودان من قائمة الدول الراعية للإرهاب فور تحويل المبلغ مباشرة “.
