Mass mortality of marine animals in Russia

Moscow: Officials in Russia have called on residents and tourists to avoid the coast of the kamchatka peninsula in the far east of the country after mass mortality of marine animals.

“The only thing that can be said right now is that there is water pollution,” regional governor Vladimir Solodov said in a statement. The death is believed to be the result of the flow of oil products from ships to the sea. The Ministry of Defence rejected accusations that its fleet might be responsible for this, and Greenpeace environmental activists had sounded the alarm about deaths. Videos showed a spot suspected to be oil, dead seals and dead fish. Tourists in areas frequented by surfers have also complained of poisoning.

موسكو: طالب المسؤولون في روسيا السكان والسياح بتجنب شاطئ شبه جزيرة كامتشاتكا بأقصى شرق البلاد بعد حدوث نفوق جماعي لحيوانات بحرية.

وقال الحاكم الإقليمي فلاديمير سولودوف في بيان: «الشيء الوحيد الذي يمكن قوله حاليًا هو أنه يوجد تلوث مائي». ويُعتقد أن النفوق ناتج عن تدفق منتجات نفطية من سفن إلى البحر. ورفضت وزارة الدفاع الاتهامات أن أسطولها قد يكون المسؤول عن ذلك كان نشطاء منظمة جرينبيس (السلام الأخضر) المعنية بالبيئة قد دقوا ناقوس الخطر بشأن حالات النفوق. وأظهرت مقاطع فيديو بقعة -يشتبه بأنها نفطية- وفقمات وسمكًا نافقًا. كما أن السياح في المناطق التي يتردد عليها راكبو الأمواج اشتكوا أيضًا من حالات تسمم.
