Silatech and BRAC Partner to Promote Self Employment for 684,000 Youth in Bangladesh

New York: Silatech has announced a partnership with BRAC, the world’s largest development organisation, to promote youth income generation through financial inclusion and unlock access to finance for 684,212 youth in Bangladesh to become self-employed.

The project, Unlocking Financial Solutions for Youth Enterprise Development was signed on the sidelines of the 78th edition of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on Monday.

Silatech said in a statement today that the project aims to address the lack of access to traditional financing resources for the youth of Bangladesh who seek to sustain, start, or expand their income-generating ventures.

The statement added that over the course of three years, the project will provide financing products to young people who do not have access to traditional banking services. Moreover, it will offer financial literacy and entrepreneurial training programmes to enhance the sustainability of their ventures and improve the financial literacy and capabilities of youth entrepreneurs.

The lack of access to formal financing is a significant challenge for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Bangladesh, with the World Bank estimating a financing gap of USD 2.8 billion. This gap is particularly pronounced for women-led SMEs, as 60 percent of them lack collateral.

In this context, Silatech CEO Hassan Al Mulla said: “By promoting youth income generation through financial inclusion and empowering Bangladesh’s youth, we are confident that this project will significantly improve their livelihoods, create more employment opportunities within their ventures, and drive sustainable economic growth.

Bangladesh has a huge youth population with few opportunities as it is the densest country in the world.” For his part, Executive Director of BRAC Asif Saleh said: “BRAC believes in power of youth to drive economic growth. We are extending microfinance services and combining it with financial literacy, and entrepreneurship training to young entrepreneurs from marginalised backgrounds.” He added, “Mentorship and capacity building would help the young entrepreneurs fuel the growth of their businesses.”

نيويورك: وقعت مؤسسة “صلتك” اتفاقية شراكة مع مؤسسة “براك”، إحدى أكبر المؤسسات التنموية في العالم، بهدف توفير فرص العمل الحر للشباب من خلال الشمول المالي والوصول للتمويل لـ (684212) شابا وشابة في بنغلاديش، وذلك على هامش أعمال الدورة الثامنة والسبعين للجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة في نيويورك.

وذكرت مؤسسة “صلتك”، في بيان، أن المشروع يهدف إلى معالجة صعوبة الوصول إلى الحلول المالية التقليدية للشباب الساعين إلى إطلاق أو استدامة أو توسيع مشاريعهم الريادية المدرة للدخل في بنغلاديش، حيث سيوفر المشروع على مدار ثلاث سنوات منتجات تمويلية للشباب غير القادرين على الوصول للخدمات البنكية التقليدية، فضلا عن تقديم برامج لمحو الأمية المالية والتدريب على المشاريع الريادية لتعزيز قدرات رواد الأعمال الشباب.

ويشكل عدم الوصول إلى التمويل الرسمي تحديا كبيرا للمشاريع الصغيرة والمتوسطة الحجم في بنغلاديش، حيث يقدر البنك الدولي وجود فجوة تمويلية تبلغ (2.8) مليار دولار، وتتضح هذه الفجوة بشكل خاص بالنسبة للمؤسسات الصغيرة والمتوسطة التي تقودها النساء، حيث يفتقر 60 في المئة منها إلى الضمانات.

وفي هذا الإطار، قال السيد حسن الملا الرئيس التنفيذي لمؤسسة صلتك: إن تعزيز المشاريع المدرة للدخل عبر الشمول المالي وتمكين الشباب في بنغلاديش، سيعمل على تحسين سبل العيش هناك، ويخلق المزيد من فرص العمل داخل هذه المشاريع، مبينا أن هناك الكثير من الشباب مع القليل من الفرص، خاصة أن بنغلاديش من أكثر البلدان كثافة حول العالم.

من جهته، أكد السيد آصف صالح المدير التنفيذي لمؤسسة براك، إيمان المؤسسة بقوة الشباب في دفع عجلة النمو الاقتصادي، حيث نسعى إلى توسيع خدمات التمويل الأصغر بالتزامن مع تقديم التثقيف المالي والتدريب على ريادة الأعمال للشباب المهمش، مشيرا إلى أن التوجيه وبناء القدرات سيساعدان رواد الأعمال الشباب على تعزيز نمو أعمالهم.
