IOSF Stresses Urgent Need for Cooperation to Achieve Food Security

Rome: Director General of the Islamic Organization for Food Security (IOSF) Yerlan Baidaulet called for the need to strengthen cooperation in order to achieve food security, noting the support of many Islamic countries for the organization’s efforts in this regard, including the State of Qatar. he 2nd United Nations Summit on Food Systems opened on Monday in Rome In his statements on the sidelines of his participation in the 2nd UN Summit on Food Systems in the Italian capital, Rome, Baidaulet confirmed that the issue of Islamic food security is one of the priority issues being discussed within the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, considering that political unrest and climate change constitute the most important threats to food security in Islamic countries.

In this context, he cited what is happening in the West African region, including the recent coup in Niger and the political unrest in Burkina Faso and Mali.

On the other hand, Baidaulet touched on the United Nations report, according to which 50 percent of the countries in need of food aid and suffering from starvation and malnutrition are among the 57 member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

In this context, he stressed the organization’s move to provide support to 12 countries mentioned in the United Nations report, and to focus in the next phase on solving food security problems in Islamic countries.
Baidaulet called on Islamic countries for more cooperation to achieve food security, Pointing out that Islamic countries have human resources, agricultural land and even water resources, as well as financing.

وأكد بايدوليت في تصريحات له على هامش مشاركته في أعمال قمة النظم الغذائية الثانية في العاصمة الإيطالية /روما/، أن قضية الأمن الغذائي الإسلامي من القضايا ذات الأولوية التي يتم بحثها داخل منظمة التعاون الإسلامي معتبرا أن الاضطرابات السياسية والتغير المناخي يشكلان أبرز التهديدات للأمن الغذائي في الدول الإسلامية.

واستشهد في هذا السياق بما يحدث في منطقة غرب إفريقيا، بما في ذلك الانقلاب الأخير في النيجر والاضطرابات السياسية في بوركينا فاسو ومالي.

من جهة أخرى، تطرق بايدوليت إلى تقرير الأمم المتحدة، الذي يفيد بأن 50 بالمئة من الدول التي بحاجة إلى المساعدات الغذائية وتعاني المجاعة ونقص التغذية هي من بين الدول الـ 57 الأعضاء في منظمة التعاون الإسلامي.

وشدد في هذا الإطار على تحرك المنظمة لتقديم الدعم لـ 12 دولة الوارد ذكرها في تقرير الأمم المتحدة، والتركيز في المرحلة القادمة لحل مشكلات الأمن الغذائي في الدول الإسلامية.

ودعا بايدوليت الدول الإسلامية إلى مزيد من التعاون لتحقيق الأمن الغذائي، مشيرا إلى “أن الدول الإسلامية تتوفر فيها الموارد البشرية، والأراضي الزراعية وحتى مصادر المياه، وأيضا التمويل”.
