OPEC Expects Global Oil Demand to Rise to 110 Million Barrels per Day by 2045

Kuala Lumpur: The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) expected global oil demand to rise to 110 million barrels per day (bpd) by 2045, 23% higher than current levels.

This was made in a speech by OPEC Secretary-General Haitham Al Ghais during the Energy Asia 2023 conference which began Monday in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur.

CEO of Saudi oil company (Aramco) Amin Nasser predicted that the fundamentals of the global oil market will remain sound for the rest of the year, underpinned by healthy demand in developing countries, especially in China and India.

“Despite the recession risks in several OECD countries, the economies of developing countries especially China and India are driving healthy oil demand growth of more than 2 million barrels per day this year,” he added at Energy Asia 2023.

Although China is facing some economic headwinds, the transport and petrochemical sectors are still showing signs of demand growth, Nasser noted.

جاء ذلك في كلمة لهيثم الغيص الأمين العام لمنظمة “أوبك”، وذلك خلال مؤتمر آسيا للطاقة الذي بدأ اليوم في العاصمة الماليزية “كوالالمبور”.

من جانبه، توقع أمين الناصر الرئيس التنفيذي لشركة النفط السعودية “أرامكو”، أن تظل أساسيات سوق النفط العالمية قوية لبقية العام الحالي، بدعم من قوة الطلب من بلدان نامية خاصة الصين والهند.

وقال الناصر في كلمة مماثلة بالمؤتمر: على الرغم من مخاطر الركود في العديد من بلدان منظمة التعاون الاقتصادي والتنمية، فإن اقتصادات الدول النامية، لا سيما الصين والهند، تؤدي إلى نمو قوي للطلب على النفط بأكثر من مليوني برميل يوميا هذا العام”، مشيرا إلى أن استكمال تحول الطاقة العالمي خلال ربع قرن فحسب “أمر خيالي”.

وأضاف أن على الرغم من أن الصين تواجه عراقيل اقتصادية فإن قطاعي النقل والبتروكيماويات ما زالا يبديان مؤشرات على نمو الطلب.
