WASHINGTON: Scientists at the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration have revealed some of the strangest things they’ve ever witnessed underwater in the Pacific Ocean, including 3 mysterious creatures they’re still baffled by.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration stated, “Our ocean covers 70 % of the Earth’s surface, and yet we have discovered only a small part of what lies deep within it.”
“So there is no shock when we encounter, often, things that baffle even the most experienced scientists.”
The discoveries come from images taken by previous expeditions of the Okeanos Explorer, operated by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, a research vessel equipped to survey the ocean depths with a remotely operated vehicle.
The first image shows a bright red coral with a “strange green filamentous organism” attached to it, found at a depth of 520 meters in the Pacific Ocean.
Usually, plants are not found at this depth due to the lack of light, so the team of scientists speculated that it may be a kind of sponge, or perhaps a type of algae that got stuck on the coral reefs.
While the second image belongs to a group of “brittle spherical and feathery objects, which seem to be all in a heap.” It was found at a depth of 2,750 meters along the Fina Nagu volcanic chain in the Pacific Ocean.

وتظهر الصورة الأولى، مرجان من اللون الأحمر الزاهي مع “كائن حي خيطي أخضر غريب” مرتبط به، وتم العثور عليه على عمق 520 مترا في المحيط الهادئ.
وعادة لا توجد النباتات في هذا العمق بسبب قلة الضوء، لذا تكهن فريق العلماء أنه قد يكون نوعا من الإسفنج، أو ربما نوعا من الطحالب التي علقت على الشعاب المرجانية.
والصورة الثانية تعود لمجموعة من “أشياء كروية وريشية هشة، تبدو وكأنها كلها في كومة”. وتم العثور عليها على عمق 2750 مترا على طول سلسلة “فينا ناغو” ( Fina Nagu) البركانية في المحيط الهادئ.
