Japanese Scientists: Unexpected Heat Wave in Jupiter’s Atmosphere

Tokyo: Japanese scientists have managed to detect an unexpected heat wave in the atmosphere of Jupiter.

The heat wave extends 130,000 km, which is ten times the diameter of Earth, while temperatures reach 700 degrees Celsius. The heat wave’s soaring temperatures make Jupiter hundreds of degrees hotter than previously predicted.

Scientists have succeeded in finding that the heat wave appears to extend from the auroral region of Jupiter, near planet’s northern pole, all the way to the equator in the center.

The researchers presented this discovery at the 2022 Europlanet Science Congress (ESPC) in Spain.

The atmosphere of Jupiter is the largest in the solar system and is made up of mostly molecular hydrogen and helium in roughly solar proportions.

ونجح العلماء في التوصل إلى أن موجة الحرارة تبدو وكأنها ممتدة من منطقة الشفق القطبي لكوكب لمشتري، بالقرب من القطب الشمالي للكوكب، وصولا لخط الاستواء في المركز.

وخلال المؤتمر العلمي الأوروبي الذي عقد في العام الجاري في إسبانيا، قدم الباحثون هذا الاكتشاف الجديد .

يذكر أن الغلاف الجوي لكوكب المشتري هو الأكبر في المجموعة الشمسية حيث يتكون في الأغلب من جزيئات الهيدروجين والهيليوم بنسب شمسية تقريبا.
