Debris from Uncontrolled Chinese Rocket Falls Over Indian Ocean

Beijing: Debris from a large Chinese rocket re-entered Earths atmosphere over the Indian Ocean on Saturday, six days after launching a space station module into orbit.

Chinas spaceflight agency said that wreckage of the 23-metric-ton (25.4 tons) Long March 5B hit Earth over the sea in the southwestern Philippines with the “vast majority” of the debris burning up upon reentry, according to a brief statement.

The Long March 5B rocket launched July 24, sending the Wentian space station module into orbit. Wentian is the second module for Chinas space station and successfully docked with the already-orbiting Tianhe core module 13 hours after launch.

The Long March 5B is a variant of Chinas largest rocket. It consists of a core stage and four side boosters. Exceptionally, the first and largest stage of this rocket also acts as the upper stage, inserting the payload into orbit.

This is the third uncontrolled entry by a Chinese rocket booster in as many years. In May 2021, pieces of another Long March rocket landed in the Indian Ocean, prompting concern that the Chinese space agency had lost control of it.

بكين: أعلنت وكالة الفضاء الصينية يوم أمس عن سقوط حطام صاروخها الخارج عن السيطرة في “بحر سولو” فوق المحيط الهندي بالقرب من الفلبين.

وأفادت الوكالة ،في بيان صحفي، بأن أكثر أجزاء الحطام احترقت وسقطت في “بحر سولو” الممتد بين جزيرة /بورنيو/ والفلبين.

وخرج الصاروخ الصيني “لونغ مارش5” عن السيطرة بعد إطلاقه الأحد الماضي حاملا وحدة مختبَر إلى محطة /تيانغونغ/ الفضائية الصينية.

وأطلقت الصين حديثا عددا من الصواريخ باتجاه محطتها الفضائية التي لم تكتمل بعد، والمعروفة باسم “تيانغونغ”، ولكن يبدو أن بكين أحيانا تفقد التحكم والسيطرة على هذه الصواريخ لدى عودتها من الفضاء حيث تعد هذه المرة الثالثة التي تترك فيها صاروخًا يهبط على الأرض دون سيطرة .

إلى ذلك، اتهمت وكالة الفضاء الأمريكية /ناسا/ الصين بعدم مشاركتها المعلومات المتعلقة بمسار عودة صاروخ “لونغ مارش 5 ب إلى الأرض”، معتبرة أن هذه الممارسات “تهدد حياة البشر و الممتلكات”.

ولا يهتم العالم عادة بموضوع سقوط الأقمار الصناعية نحو الأرض باعتباره موضوعا عاديا ومتكرراً بشكل أسبوعي تقريبا، إلا أن ما يميز سقوط الصاروخ الصيني الجديد أن حطامه أكبر من المعدل المعتاد حيث يبلغ طوله 33 مترا وقطره 5 أمتار ووزنه 21 طنّا تقريبًا.

وسبق لوكالة الفضاء الأمريكية، أن وجهت دعوات إلى نظيرتها الصينية لكي تصمّم الأخيرة صواريخها بحيث تتفكّك أجسامها إلى أجزاء متناهية الصغر لدى عودتها، كما هو متبّع دوليا.
