Elon Musk has sent a derogatory emoji to the CEO of Twitter as part of his fight against spam.

Last week, Mr Musk announced that his proposed acquisition of the social media platform was “on hold” as he looked for more information about spam, bots and fake accounts on the platform.

Now, Twitter chief executive Parag Agarwal has published a lengthy thread in which he has said that he will take up the issue “with the benefit of data, facts and context”.

In another post, Mr. Agarwal details the difficulties in ascertaining whether any accounts are genuine or fake, even if those checks were made by genuine people. “Each human review is based on Twitter rules that define spam and platform manipulation, and what public and private data (e.g., IP address, phone number, geolocation, client/browser signature) does when the account is active.. .) uses one assessment on each account,” Mr. Agarwal wrote.

Mr Musk’s new focus on Twitter bots began last week with a tweet he linked to an article about a Twitter filing that included a claim of 5 percent. In the same post he announced that the deal was “temporarily on hold”.

Mr Musk has not shared any progress on the deal since then, and has not elaborated on his concerns with the platform.
