Geneva: The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced that the number of people who have fled the war in Ukraine has exceeded 4.5 million.
Data issued by the UNHCR, which appeared since the outbreak of the war on February 24, showed that four million and 503 thousand and 954 people left the country.
About 2.59 million fled to neighboring Poland, more than any other country. It is followed by Romania, with more than 686,000, and Hungary, with more than 419,000.
UNHCR estimates that a large number of these people have since gone to other countries in Europe, but those border crossings are not registered, and people who have returned to Ukraine are also not counted.
