Red Bull Curates Exhibits Dhow Art in Qatar

Doha, November 24^th  – For the first time in Qatar, Red Bull Curates will feature Dhow Art. The initiative is dedicated to the appreciation of art and Qatar’s cultural heritage. Red Bull Curates: Dhow Art will be held in partnership with Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum, Vodafone Qatar and Doha Fire station.

As an essential aspect of Qatar’s history, the iconic dhow will become the unconventional canvas to a selection of talented artists in the country. Leading as the curator on the initiative Khalifa Al Obaidly, director of Doha Fire Station will lead the artists throughout Red Bull Curates: Dhow art.

The curator invited 25 Artists from all backgrounds and disciplines, to take part in the initiative. Starting with an orientation at Doha Fire Station, the project was introduced to the invitees, giving them insights on everything to expect. The artists proceeded to submit the creative designs that would inspire their dhow art.

“We’re used to the canvas traditionally being an empty space, but now the canvas has transformed into a dhow, presenting a new challenge. Every artist will innovate to find their own way around this challenge as they implement their inspiring art to the boats. I look forward to this truly unique experience, changing the way effects are expressed through art”, claimed Khalifa Al Obaidly.

On the 23^rd of November an announcement dinner was held at the City Centre Rotana Doha. The event was attended by multiple media outlets at which the curator and a jury selected six artists to bring their designs to life. The six artists include Fahad Al-Maadheed, Mubarak Al Malik, Jamila Al Ansari, Noor Abu Issa, Fatma Al Naimi and Muna Al Bader.

During implementation, the artists will paint, spray and decorate the dhows down to every detail. The artists and their dhows will be showcased at the Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum on the 14^th of December.

الدوحة في 24 نوفمبر – للمرّة الأولى في قطر، ستتناول ريد بل فنّ مراكب الداو من خلال مبادرة ريد بل يقدم: داو آرت. وترمي هذه المبادرة إلى إعلاء شأن الفنون والتراث الثقافي القطري. وتُنظّم المسابقة بالشراكة مع فودافون قطر، ومتحف الشيخ فيصل بن قاسم آل ثاني، ومطافئ الدوحة، مقر الفنانين.

وسيتحوّل مركب الداو، الّذي يمثّل جانبًا أساسيًّا من التاريخ القطري، وبما يحمله من رموز، إلى لوحة غير تقليديّة لباقة مختارة من الفنّانين الموهوبين في البلاد. وسيقدّم القيّم الفنّي على هذه المبادرة، وهو مدير مطافئ الدوحة الفنان خليفة العبيدلي، التوجيه للفنّانين في كافّة مراحل مسابقة ريد بل كورايتس لفنّ الداو.

وقد دعا القيّم الفنّي 25 فنّانًا من جميع الخلفيّات والاختصاصات للمشاركة في هذه المبادرة. وانطلق المشروع باجتماع توجيهي في مطافي الدوحة، حيث تمّ تقديمه للمدعويّن، وعُرض عليهم كلّ ما يجب أن يتوقّعوه. وبعد ذلك، قدّم الفنّانون التصاميم المبتكرة الّتي سيستعينون بها لتنفيذ لوحاتهم الفنيّة على مراكب الداو.

ويقول خليفة العبيدلي في هذا الصدد: “اللوحات الّتي اعتدنا الرسم عليها تقليديًّا هي كناية عن مساحة فارغة، ولكنّ لوحتنا اليوم قد تحولت إلى مركب داو، ما يطرح تحديًا جديدًا. الابتكار سيكون سلاح كلّ الفنانين لرفع هذا التحدي، إذ يطبّقون فنونهم الملهمة على المراكب. وأنا أتطلّع إلى هذه التجربة الفريدة، الّتي من شأنها أن تغيّر طريقة التعبير عن المؤثرات من خلال الفنّ”.

في 23 تشرين الثاني/نوفمبر، تم إحياء حفل عشاء افتتاحي في سيتي سنتر روتانا في الدوحة. وحضر الحفل الشركاء في هذه المبادرة، و الفنانين المشاركين و عدد من الشخصيات الاجتماعية و وسائل الإعلام، كما اختار خلاله القيم الفنّي تعاونه لجنة تحكيميّة ستّة فنّانين حتّى يحوّلوا تصاميمهم إلى حقيقة. ويضمّ هؤلاء: فهد المعاضيد، مبارك المالك، جميلة الأنصاري، نور أبو عيسى، فاطمة النعيمي، منى البدر.

خلال التنفيذ، سيقوم الفنانون بطلاء مراكب الداو، ورشّها، وتزينها، من دون أن يغفلوا أيّ تفصيل. وسيتمّ تسليط الضوء على الفنانين وتحفهم في متحف الشيخ فيصل بن قاسم آل ثاني في 14 كانون الأوّل/ديسمبر المقبل.
