More than 2.5 Million People Fled Ukraine, IOM Says

Geneva: The United Nations International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced that more than 2.5 million people have fled Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian military escalation.
“The number of refugees from Ukraine, so far, has reached 2.5 million,” said Paul Dillon, spokesman for the organization on the social networking site / Twitter.
This indicates an increase of about 200,000 refugees from the figure mentioned in the organization’s report issued on Thursday.
Separately, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said today that at least 1.85 million people have been displaced within Ukraine.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees had warned, earlier, of the possibility of about 4 million civilians would flee Ukraine in case of the escalation of the situation in in the country.
Russia launched at the dawn of last February 24 a military operation in Ukraine, which was followed by angry international reactions and the imposition of tight economic and financial sanctions on Moscow.

جنيف: أعلنت المنظمة الدولية للهجرة التابعة للأمم المتحدة أن حوالى 2.5 مليون شخص فروا من أوكرانيا منذ بداية التصعيد العسكري الروسي.
وقال بول ديلون الناطق باسم المنظمة على موقع التواصل الاجتماعي /تويتر/ “وصل عدد اللاجئين من أوكرانيا، حتى الان إلى 2.5 مليون شخص”.
ويشير هذا إلى زيادة حوالي 200 ألف لاجئ عن الرقم الوارد في تقرير المنظمة الصادر أمس الخميس.
وعلى نحو منفصل، قال مكتب الأمم المتحدة لتنسيق الشؤون الإنسانية اليوم إن ما لا يقل عن 1.85 مليون شخص نزحوا داخل أوكرانيا .
يشار إلى أن المفوضية السامية للأمم المتحدة لشؤون اللاجئين قد حذرت ،في وقت سابق، من احتمال فرار نحو 4 ملايين مدني في حال تصعيد الأوضاع بأوكرانيا، وذلك بعد أن أطلقت روسيا فجر 24 فبراير الماضي عملية عسكرية في أوكرانيا، تبعتها ردود فعل دولية غاضبة وفرض عقوبات اقتصادية ومالية مشددة على موسكو.
