New York: The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) announced the intensification of the emergency humanitarian response to hundreds of thousands of displaced people in Myanmar.
UNHCR spokesperson Matthew Saltmarsh said in a statement, that the number of internally displaced people in Myanmar has doubled since February 2011 and is standing currently at 800,000 people, with the rapid deterioration of the security situation throughout the country and the intensification of armed conflict, expecting an accelerating trend of displacement waves in the coming weeks and months. .
Saltmarsh noted that Kayin and Kaya are the most affected states where hostilities between various armed groups lead to large-scale displacements.
The UN official also indicated that the states of Mon and Chaya in the south, Bago in the east, and another region in the northwest in Myanmar have been affected by the conflict and have urgent needs for aid, stressing that aid access to these areas is still restricted due to insecurity, roadblocks and challenges in obtaining traffic approvals. .
The UNHCR announced its need to 56.7 million US dollars to ensure the provision of adequate assistance to the displaced in Myanmar, and called on the Myanmar authorities to facilitate the arrival of aid and to stop the forcible return of the displaced.

يذكر أن المفوضية أعلنت عن حاجتها لتوفير 7ر56 مليون دولار أمريكي لضمان تقديم المساعدات الكافية للنازحين في ميانمار ، ودعت سلطات ميانمار لتسهيل وصول المساعدات ووقف العودة القسرية للنازحين .
