Helicopter Crash Kills India’s Military Chief, 12 Others

New Delhi: India’s Chief of Defense Staff Gen. Bipin Rawat and 12 others were killed Wednesday in a helicopter crash in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu state, the Indian Air Force (IAF) said.
“With deep regret, it has now been ascertained that Gen. Bipin Rawat, Madhulika Rawat (wife) and 11 other persons on board have died in the unfortunate accident,” the IAF tweeted.
The air force added, “An Inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident.”
Earlier Wednesday, the Indian army announced the crash of a military helicopter carrying Gen. Bipin Rawat, noting that four senior army officials were killed in the crash of the plane, which was bound for a military base in Wellington.

وقال سلاح الجو في تغريدة “تأكد الآن بأن الجنرال بيبين راوات والسيدة مدوليكا راوات و11 شخصا كانوا على متن المروحية، قضوا في الحادث المؤسف”.
وأضاف “أن أوامر قد صدرت بفتح تحقيق للوقوف على سبب الحادث”.
وكان الجيش الهندي قد أعلن في وقت سابق اليوم عن تحطم مروحية عسكرية تقل الجنرال بيبين راوات، مشيرا إلى أن أربعة من كبار مسؤولي الجيش لقوا حتفهم في حادث تحطم الطائرة التي كانت متجهة إلى قاعدة عسكرية في مدينة /ويلينجدون/.
