Turkey Will Achieve Green Transformation in the Next 3 Years

Glasgow: Turkish Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum said that his country is determined to achieve a green transformation that effectively contributes to building a sustainable economy and green development within the next three years.

“We’ll carry out our fight against climate change more effectively with the $3.1 billion financing provided to Turkey,” affirmed Kurum on the sidelines at the inauguration of Turkey’s pavilion in the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26).

The minister said that his country had reached agreements with the World Bank, the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, the United Nations (UN), and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, to support green climate-friendly projects in Turkey.

The minister pointed out that COP26, which will run until Nov. 12, will discuss many projects related to combating climate change and exchanging related technologies and experiences.

Among goals of the conference are securing the global emissions to net-zero by 2050, and maintaining global warming to a maximum of 1.5 degrees, compared to the 3.5 degrees expected under current emissions.

To achieve the desired goals, countries will need to accelerate the phase-out of coal, reduce deforestation, accelerate the transition to electric vehicles, and encourage investment in renewable energy sources, according to the UN.

غلاسكو: قال السيد مراد قوروم وزير البيئة والتخطيط العمراني التركي ،إن بلاده عاقدة العزم على تحقيق التحول الأخضر الذي يساهم بشكل فعال في بناء اقتصاد مستدام وتنمية خضراء خلال السنوات الثلاث المقبلة.

وأكد قوروم على هامش افتتاحه لجناح تركيا في مدينة غلاسكو الاسكتلندية في إطار أعمال مؤتمر الأمم المتحدة السادس والعشرين لتغير المناخ (COP26) ، “أن تركيا حصلت على 3 مليارات و157 مليون دولار لدعم أنشطة التحول الأخضر في إطار مشاركتها في اتفاق باريس للمناخ ،وأن الحكومة ستوظف المبلغ لخلق اقتصاد مستدام وتعزيز التنمية الخضراء خلال السنوات الثلاث المقبلة”.

وذكر أن بلاده توصلت لاتفاقات مع البنك الدولي، ووزارة البيئة الفيدرالية الألمانية، ووزارة أوروبا والعلاقات الخارجية الفرنسية، والأمم المتحدة، والبنك الأوروبي لإعادة الإعمار والتنمية، من أجل دعم مشاريع التحول الأخضر في تركيا.

ولفت الوزير إلى أن المؤتمر الـ26 لتغير المناخ الذي سيستمر حتى 12 نوفمبر الجاري، سيناقش العديد من المشاريع التي تتعلق بمكافحة تغير المناخ وتبادل التقنيات والخبرات ذات الصلة.

وضمن أهداف المؤتمر تأمين صافي الصفر العالمي للانبعاثات بحلول منتصف القرن، والحفاظ على ارتفاع حرارة الأرض بحد أقصى 1.5 درجة، مقارنة مع 3.5 درجات متوقعة في ظل الانبعاثات الحالية.

ولتحقيق الأهداف المنشودة، ستحتاج البلدان إلى تسريع التخلص التدريجي من الفحم، والحد من إزالة الغابات، وتسريع التحول إلى السيارات الكهربائية، وتشجيع الاستثمار في مصادر الطاقة المتجددة، وفق الأمم المتحدة.
