Two Iraqi researchers discover bacteria that produce gold

Doha: Researcher Shafaq Tariq at Mosul University in Nineveh province in northern Iraq was able to find three types of bacteria that have the ability to produce gold, through a doctoral thesis on “producing tiny gold nuggets from bacteria”. For the first time, three environments producing gold metal have been discovered.

Research supervisor Dr. Amira Mahmoud al-Rawi pointed out that this discovery is the first in the world, and obtained 3 patent certificates from the Central Agency for Standardization and Quality Control, and this discovery was recorded in the Gene Bank of America with their names (abbreviated) “Shafaq Tariq and Amira al-Rawi” (Sham).

For her part, Dr. Al Rawi stressed that this discovery can be used through soils that contain this type of bacteria, and through many applications in various fields in medicine, industry and scientific and applied fields.

Economic advisor Essam Anwar Zankana said the research will affect Nineveh’s economy in particular, and Iraq in general, especially since it will enter many areas with economic returns and create jobs.

الدوحة: تمكنت الباحثة شفق طارق بجامعة الموصل في محافظة نينوى (شمال العراق) من التوصل إلى 3 أنواع من البكتيريا التي لديها القدرة على إنتاج دقائق الذهب، وذلك من خلال أطروحة الدكتوراه التي تناولت فيها “إنتاج دقائق الذهب من البكتيريا”. ولأول مرة عالميا يتم اكتشاف 3 بيئات تنتج معدن الذهب.

وأشارت مشرفة البحث الدكتورة أميرة محمود الراوي إلى أن هذا الاكتشاف يعد الأول عالميا، ونالت عنه 3 شهادات براءة اختراع من الجهاز المركزي للتقييس والسيطرة النوعية، وسُجل هذا الاكتشاف في بنك الجينات بأميركا حاملا اسميهما (مختصرا) “شفق طارق وأميرة الراوي” (Sham).

من جهتها أكدت الدكتورة الراوي أن هذا الاكتشاف يمكن الاستفادة منه من خلال التربة التي تضم هذه النوعية من البكتيريا، ومن خلال تطبيقات عديدة في مجالات مختلفة في الطب والصناعة والمجالات العلمية والتطبيقية.

كما يرى المستشار الاقتصادي عصام أنور زنكنة أن هذا البحث سيؤثر على اقتصاد نينوى بشكل خاص، والعراق بشكل عام، لا سيما أنه سيدخل في مجالات عديدة لها مردود اقتصادي وسيوفر فرص عمل.
