Britain Eases COVID-19 Travel Restrictions

London: Britain announced the easing of restrictions imposed on international travel due to the COVID-19 pandemic, starting from October 4.

Testing requirements will also be reduced for eligible fully vaccinated travelers, who will no longer need to take a PDT when travelling to England from Monday 4 October 4am, the UK Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said.

From the end of October, eligible fully vaccinated passengers and those with an approved vaccine from a select group of non-red countries will be able to replace their day 2 test with a cheaper lateral flow test, reducing the cost of tests on arrival into England. The government wants to introduce this by the end of October, aiming to have it in place for when people return from half-term breaks.

Anyone testing positive will need to isolate and take a confirmatory PCR test, at no additional cost to the traveler, which would be genomically sequenced to help identify new variants.

“Todays changes mean a simpler, more straightforward system. One with less testing and lower costs, allowing more people to travel, see loved ones or conduct business around the world while providing a boost for the travel industry,” Shapps said.

“Public health has always been at the heart of our international travel policy and with more than 8 in 10 adults vaccinated in the UK, we are now able to introduce a proportionate updated structure that reflects the new landscape.”

وأضاف شابس، أن المسافرين الملقحين القادمين من الدول منخفضة الخطورة لن يكونوا في حاجة إلى إجراء فحوصات /بي سي آر/ قبل مغادرة رحلاتهم القادمة إلى إنجلترا، مع الاستعاضة عن ذلك بإجراء فحص /التدفق الأفقي/ السريع منخفض التكلفة في اليوم الثاني من تاريخ الوصول.

وأشار إلى أن تخفيف الإجراءات والعمل بالنظام الجديد للسفر الدولي سيستمر حتى بداية العام الجديد على أقل تقدير، مضيفا أن الهدف من تخفيف القيود “هو تسهيل السفر خاصة مع ارتفاع نسبة الحاصلين على التطعيم”.

الجدير بالذكر أن بريطانيا تعد من أكثر بلدان العالم تأثرا بتفشي وباء كورونا، حيث تأتي في المرتبة الرابعة عالميا من حيث عدد الحالات المصابة بأكثر من 7.3 مليون حالة، وتحتل المرتبة السابعة عالميا من حيث عدد الوفيات بأكثر من 134 ألف حالة وفاة.
