Biden authorizes 5,000 troops to be sent to Afghanistan

Doha: U.S. President Joe Biden has announced that he has agreed to send additional military forces to the Afghan capital, Kabul, to help safely evacuate U.S. Embassy staff and personnel from Afghanistan.
“I have authorized the deployment of approximately 5,000 American troops to ensure we can have an orderly and safe withdrawal of American and other allied personnel,” Biden said in a statement yesterday, adding, “Some Afghans who assisted our forces during our mission will also be evacuated.”
He also announced that he had simultaneously taken several measures aimed at calming the current situation in Afghanistan, including “directing the intelligence community to ensure that it maintains capacity and vigilance to confront future terrorist threats from Afghanistan.”
Biden again defended his decision to withdraw the U.S. army from Afghanistan, saying, “I am the fourth president to hold the office with U.S. forces present in Afghanistan,” stressing, “I will not bequeath this war to a fifth president.”
A new force of U.S. soldiers arrived yesterday in Kabul for evacuations.
In a related context, the U.S. State Department said that U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken spoke yesterday with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, and the two sides discussed “the urgent need for ongoing diplomatic and political efforts to reduce violence” in Afghanistan.
Blinken stressed Washington’s commitment to establishing a strong diplomatic and security relationship with the Government of Afghanistan and “our continued support for the people of Afghanistan.

الدوحة: أعلن الرئيس الأمريكي جو بايدن أنه وافق على إرسال قوات عسكرية إضافية إلى العاصمة الأفغانية كابول، للمساعدة في إجلاء طاقم السفارة الأمريكية بأمان وإخراج الأفراد من أفغانستان.
وقال بايدن في بيان أمس، “سمحت بنشر ما يقرب من 5 آلاف جندي أمريكي للتأكد من أننا يمكن أن يكون لدينا انسحاب منظم وآمن للأفراد الأمريكيين وغيرهم من أفراد الحلفاء”، مضيفا ” كما سيتم إجلاء بعض الأفغان الذين ساعدوا قواتنا خلال مهمتنا”.
كما أعلن أيضا أنه اتخذ في الوقت نفسه عدة إجراءات تهدف إلى تهدئة الوضع الحالي في أفغانستان، بما في ذلك “توجيه مجتمع الاستخبارات لضمان المحافظة على القدرة واليقظة لمواجهة التهديدات الإرهابية المستقبلية من أفغانستان “.
ودافع بايدن مجددا عن قراره سحب الجيش الأمريكي من أفغانستان.. قائلا “أنا رابع رئيس يتولى المنصب في ظل وجود قوات أمريكية في أفغانستان”، مؤكدا “لن أورّث هذه الحرب إلى رئيس خامس”.
ووصلت قوة جديدة من الجنود الأمريكيين، أمس، إلى كابول من أجل عمليات الإجلاء.
وفي سياق متصل، قالت وزارة الخارجية الأمريكية، إن السيد أنتوني بلينكن وزير الخارجية الأمريكي قد تحدث أمس مع الرئيس الأفغاني أشرف غني، وناقش الجانبان “الحاجة الملحة للجهود الدبلوماسية والسياسية الجارية للحد من العنف” في أفغانستان.
وأكد بلينكن على التزام واشنطن بإقامة علاقة دبلوماسية وأمنية قوية مع حكومة أفغانستان “ودعمنا المستمر لشعب أفغانستان”.
