Lucky Sri Lankan accidentally discovers $100 million treasure in his home

Coincidence led workers to find a treasure by accident which is the world’s largest blue sapphire stone, as they were digging a well in the garden of a person living in Ratnapura, Sri Lanka.

According to Russia Today, Sri Lankan authorities said a huge $100 million sapphire stone discovered by workers digging a well in the backyard of a house in the country, while the BBC reported that the 2.5 million-carat gemstone, believed to be the world’s largest ruby stone, had been discovered behind the house of a stone dealer in Ratnapura.

“The person who was digging the well alerted us to the presence of some rare stones,” said the owner of the precious stone, who only revealed his nickname, Gamage. Later, we found this huge sample,” Gamage notified the authorities of the discovery, but it took more than a year to clean the stone before they could ratify it.

Experts pointed out that the value of the stone, which has been called “sapphire of chance” amounts to $100 million, said Dr. Gamini Zweisa, a senior gemologist: “I have never seen such a large sample before, that this stone may have been formed about 400 million years ago

“It’s a special sample of star sapphire (showing a star-like concentration of reflected or broken light), perhaps the largest in the world,” said Thilak Wierasinghe, president of the National Gem and Jewelry Authority. Given its size and value, we believe it will interest amateurs who own antiques or private museums.”

ووفقا لموقع روسيا اليوم فقد قالت السلطات السريلانكية إن حجرا ضخما من الياقوت تصل قيمته إلى 100 مليون دولار اكتشفه عمال يحفرون بئرا في الفناء الخلفي لأحد المنازل في البلاد، في حين ذكرت هيئة الإذاعة البريطانية (بي بي سي) أنه وقع اكتشاف الحجر الكريم الذي يبلغ وزنه 2.5 مليون قيراط، والذي يعتقد أنه أكبر حجر ياقوت في العالم، خلف منزل تاجر أحجار في راتنابورا.

من جهته صرح مالك الجوهرة، الذي لم يكشف سوى عن كنيته، غاماج: “لقد نبهنا الشخص الذي كان يحفر البئر إلى وجود بعض الأحجار النادرة. وفي وقت لاحق، عثرنا على هذه العينة الضخمة”، كما أخطر غاماج السلطات بالاكتشاف، لكن الأمر استغرق أكثر من عام لتنظيف الحجر قبل أن يتمكنوا من التصديق عليه.

وأشار الخبراء إلى أن قيمة الحجر الذي أطلق عليه اسم “ياقوت الصدفة” تصل إلى 100 مليون دولار، وقال الدكتور غاميني زويسا، أحد كبار علماء الأحجار الكريمة: “لم أر قط مثل هذه العينة الكبيرة من قبل، إن هذا الحجر ربما تم تشكيله منذ نحو 400 مليون عام

بدوره أوضح ثيلاك وييراسينغ، رئيس الهيئة الوطنية للأحجار الكريمة والمجوهرات: “إنها عينة خاصة من الياقوت النجمي (تظهر تركيزا يشبه النجم للضوء المنعكس أو المنكسر)، وربما تكون الأكبر في العالم. ونظرا لحجمها وقيمتها، نعتقد أنها ستثير اهتمام الهواة مقتني التحف أو المتاحف الخاصة”.
