WHO warns of a new Coronavirus mutation more severe than Delta

The World Health Organization has warned of the “Lampada” mutant of the emerging Coronavirus, saying that it is considered more virulent than the delta mutant, and it constitutes 70% of coronavirus infections in Chile and Argentina.
The Director of WHO Regional Office, Carissa Etienne, said evidence so far of the mutation indicates its high risk, particularly in terms of its rapid transmission and ability to resist vaccine immunity.
“We still do not have enough data to determine the severity of this mutation and its ultimate characteristics,” she added.
According to WHO, the mutation was first discovered in Peru in January 2020, and in April 2021 more than 80% of new Coronavirus cases in Peru became mutated.
On June 14, 2021, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced the mutation, calling it “Lampada”, which it considered an interesting one.
The mutation is spread across 29 countries, with high levels in South American countries in particular.
In recent months, the Lampada variant has been detected in 81% of Covid-19 cases in Peru, which have undergone genetic sequencing tests, and 31% of similar cases in Chile.
New studies reported that the lampada mutant is able to resist the Chinese Coronavac vaccine, in 64% of cases, and in some cases, the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, by 22%, according to what was announced by the Chilean virologist, Ricardo Soto.
The world is currently witnessing several mutations of the Coronavirus, which have reached 17 mutations, according to a recent study, published by the British “BBC” website, explaining that viruses are constantly mutating, so scientists monitor them to find out their variables.

وقالت مديرة المكتب الإقليمي للمنظمة “كاريسا إتيان” إن القرائن المتوفرة حتى الآن عن هذه الطفرة تشير إلى خطورتها العالية، خاصة من حيث سرعة سريانها وقدرتها على مقاومة المناعة الناشئة عن اللقاحات والتعافي من الوباء.
وأضافت: “ما زلنا لا نملك البيانات الكافية لتحديد مدى خطورة هذه الطفرة ومواصفاتها النهائية.”
ووفق المنظمة، تم اكتشاف هذا المتحور لأول مرة في البيرو في يناير 2020، وفي أبريل 2021 أصبح أكثر من 80% من حالات كورونا الجديدة في البيرو من هذا المتحور.
وفي 14 يونيو 2021، أعلنت منظمة الصحة العالمية عن هذا المتحور وأطلقت عليه اسم “لامبادا”، واعتبرته متحورا مثيرا للاهتمام.
وينتشر المتحور في 29 دولة، وبمستويات مرتفعة في دول أمريكا الجنوبية على وجه الخصوص.
وفي الأشهر الأخيرة، تم اكتشاف متغير لامبادا في 81٪ من حالات كوفيد-19 في بيرو، التي خضعت لاختبارات التسلسل الجيني، و31٪ من الحالات المماثلة في تشيلي.
وأفادت دراسات جديدة أن متحور لامبادا قادر على مقاومة لقاح كورونافاك الصيني، بنسبة 64% من الحالات، ومواجهة لقاحي فايزر وموديرنا بنسبة 22% في بعض الأحيان، بحسب ما أعلن خبير العلوم الفيروسية التشيلي ريكاردو سوتو.
ويشهد العالم حالياً عدة متحورات لفيروس كورونا، وصلت إلى 17 طفرة، بحسب دراسة حديثة، نشرها موقع “بي بي سي” البريطاني، موضحة أن الفيروسات تتحوّر باستمرار، لذلك يرصدها العلماء لمعرفة متغيراتها.
