Qatar Has Developed Clear Plans to Protect Environment, Ecological Balance

Doha: HE Minister of Municipality and Environment Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie affirmed that the State of Qatar, under the wise leadership of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, has attached great importance to the environment and sustainable development represented in the inclusion of this field as one of the main pillars of Qatar Vision National 2030, through clear plans and programs aimed at preserving and protecting the environment and ecological balance and achieving comprehensive and sustainable development for all future generations.

In his speech on the occasion of the World Environment Day, which falls on June 5 every year, HE the Minister expressed the State of Qatar’s pleasure to participate in the celebration of the 2021 World Environment Day under the slogan “Ecosystem Restoration,” which comes within the context of the urgent need to take ambitious measures to develop a clear framework for preserving ecosystems and environmental diversity in the world in a way that contributes to achieving a sustainable environment for future generations. He explained that the Ministry of Municipality and Environments interest in the 2021 World Environment Day comes as an affirmation of the importance of the environments important role in providing a healthy life for everyone living in Qatar in line with the wise leaderships interest in developing resources and natural wealth, guided by Qatar National Vision 2030 and the development plans and strategies that emerged from it, where it harnessed all its energies to work constructively towards achieving a sustainable environment and preserving ecosystems.

HE the Minister pointed out that the Ministry of Municipality and Environment has undertaken, at the national level, many plans and strategies that focus on preserving the Qatari land, protecting endangered trees, planting many Qatari wild trees, and working to multiply endangered animals such as the Arabian Oryx and Re’em, as well as preserving aquatic ecosystems through a national network for continuous monitoring of the state of the marine environment, and programs to examine the quality of soil and coastal waters in the country by collecting samples at different depths, stressing that these efforts aim to achieve a quantum leap in the countrys environmental systems in its various forms.

HE Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie explained that the State of Qatar has attached great importance to climate change, by ratifying the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, to contribute to doing what is necessary to reduce the effects of climate change with the countries of the whole world, adding that preparations are being made to study green growth opportunities in preparation for the development of a national strategy for green growth for the State of Qatar, taking into account sustainable development, in cooperation with the Global Green Growth Institute via its office in Doha. He added that based on the keenness of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment on the importance of the environment, it recently launched “the State of the Environment in Qatar 2021” book, which aims to prepare a reliable assessment of the state of the environment in Qatar, and the efforts and achievements that have been achieved in this field, and launched an initiative to plant one million trees of the Qatari environment in cooperation with several governmental and private agencies and civil society organizations.

Also, HE the Minister of Municipality and Environment indicated that organizing such events and awareness activities on the occasion of the 2021 World Environment Day with the participation of several authorities concerned with the environment, is an important message to the world that the State of Qatar is keen to protect environmental systems, and raise the awareness among its people of the importance of preserving the environment in addition to highlighting the important role that each person can play for protecting the environment.

At the conclusion of his speech, HE Minister of Municipality and Environment Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie called on all civil society organizations and all segments of society to join efforts to preserve the ecosystems in the Qatari environment, as it is part of the natural heritage and legacy for future generations.

Assistant Undersecretary for Environmental Affairs at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment Eng. Hassan Jumaa Al Muhannadi said that World Environment Day is one of the most prominent events that motivate everyone to continue the tireless work in preserving and sustaining the environment, indicating that this day represents the spotlight for the important environmental areas.

He explained that this year’s celebration of World Environment Day under the slogan “Ecosystem Restoration,” comes in light of the urgent need to restore ecosystems on the planet, as ecosystems support all forms of life on the earth, noting that the Ministry of Municipality and Environment has consistently, as in previous years, celebrated this occasion by highlighting the importance of protecting the environment.

Assistant Undersecretary for Environmental Affairs at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment reviewed the efforts and achievements of the Ministry in the field of restoring environmental systems, which are still progressing at a steady pace and through a clear approach based on strategic planning in line with Qatar National Vision 2030, which has made environmental development one of its four pillars, including the administrative plan for Al Reem Biosphere Reserve, which is included in the World Network of Biosphere Reserves as the first reserve of its kind and one of just two in the Arab Gulf region. He explained that this plan aims to preserve and develop the ecosystems in the reserve in a way that preserves the right of present and future generations to enjoy the reserve’s natural and cultural heritage.

He also added that the rehabilitation project of farms and desert and the million trees initiative have contributed significantly to maintaining the vegetation cover in the State of Qatar and the sustainability of trees related to the Qatari environment, as some of which were considered endangered, in addition to the sustainability of biodiversity in general in the environment surrounding it. He praised the efforts of all those who participated in the ministry’s initiatives from schools, companies, and government agencies, which is evidence of the community’s awareness of the importance of preserving ecosystems in the State of Qatar.

الدوحة: أكد سعادة السيد عبدالله بن عبدالعزيز بن تركي السبيعي، وزير البلدية والبيئة، أن دولة قطر في ظل القيادة الحكيمة لحضرة صاحب السمو الشيخ تميم بن حمد آل ثاني أمير البلاد المفدى، أولت البيئة والتنمية المستدامة أهمية كبرى تمثلت في إدراج هذا المجال كأحد أهم ركائز رؤية قطر الوطنية 2030، وذلك من خلال خطط وبرامج واضحة تهدف لصون وحماية البيئة وتوازنها الطبيعي، وتحقيقا لتنمية شاملة ومستدامة لكافة الأجيال المقبلة.

وقال سعادته، في كلمة له بمناسبة يوم البيئة العالمي الذي يوافق الخامس من يونيو كل عام، “إنه لمن دواعي سرورنا في دولة قطر أن نشارك في الاحتفال بيوم البيئة العالمي هذا العام تحت شعار /استعادة النظم البيئية/ والذي يأتي ضمن سياق الحاجة الملحة لاتخاذ إجراءات طموحة لوضع إطار واضح للحفاظ على النظم البيئية والتنوع البيئي في العالم بالشكل الذي يساهم في تحقيق بيئة مستدامة للأجيال المقبلة”، موضحا أن اهتمام وزارة البلدية والبيئة بيوم البيئة العالمي 2021 يأتي تأكيدا لأهمية دور البيئة الهام في توفير حياة سليمة لكل فرد يعيش على أرضها تماشيا مع اهتمام القيادة الرشيدة بتطوير الموارد والثروات الطبيعية مسترشدة برؤيتها الوطنية 2030 وما انبثق عنها من خطط واستراتيجيات تنموية، حيث سخرت كل طاقاتها للعمل البناء نحو تحقيق البيئة المستدامة، والحفاظ على النظم البيئية.

ولفت سعادة الوزير إلى أن وزارة البلدية والبيئة قامت، على الصعيد الوطني، بالعديد من الخطط والاستراتيجيات التي ترتكز على المحافظة على البر القطري وحماية الأشجار المهددة بالانقراض واستزراع عدد من الأشجار البرية القطرية، والعمل على الإكثار من الحيوانات المهددة بالانقراض مثل المها العربي والريم، فضلا عن المحافظة على النظم البيئية المائية من خلال شبكة وطنية لرصد حالة البيئة البحرية المستمر، وبرامج لفحص جودة التربة والمياه الساحلية في الدولة وجمع عينات بأعماق مختلفة، مؤكدا أن هذه الجهود تهدف إلى تحقيق قفزة نوعية في نظم البيئة بالدولة بمختلف أشكالها.

وأوضح سعادة السيد عبدالله بن عبدالعزيز بن تركي السبيعي، أن دولة قطر أولت اهتماما كبيرا بالتغير المناخي، من خلال المصادقة على اتفاق باريس للتغير المناخي، لتساهم في عمل ما يلزم للحد من آثار التغير المناخي مع دول العالم أجمع، كما يتم التحضير لدراسة فرص النمو الأخضر تمهيدا لوضع استراتيجية وطنية للنمو الأخضر لدولة قطر، تراعي التنمية المستدامة، وذلك بالتعاون مع المعهد العالمي للنمو الأخضر من خلال مكتبه في الدوحة، مضيفا أنه انطلاقا من حرص وزارة البلدية والبيئة على أهمية البيئة فقد قامت مؤخرا بتدشين كتاب حالة البيئة في دولة قطر 2021 ، الذي يهدف الى إعداد تقييم موثوق لحالة البيئة في قطر، والجهود والانجازات التي تم تحقيقها بهذا المجال، كما أطلقت مبادرة لزراعة مليون شجرة من أشجار البيئة القطرية بالتعاون مع عدد من الجهات الحكومية والخاصة ومنظمات المجتمع المدني.

كما بين سعادة وزير البلدية والبيئة أن تنظيم مثل هذه الفعاليات والأنشطة التوعوية التي تقام بمناسبة يوم البيئة العالمي 2021 بمشاركة عدد من الجهات المعنية بالبيئة، هي رسالة هامة للعالم بأن دولة قطر تأتي ضمن أول الدول الحريصة على حماية النظم البيئية ، وتطور الوعي لدى أبنائها بأهمية الحفاظ على البيئة بالإضافة إلى أهمية الدور الذي يمكن أن يقوم به كل شخص مسئول تجاه حماية بيئته.

وفي ختام كلمته، دعا سعادة السيد عبدالله بن عبدالعزيز بن تركي السبيعي وزير البلدية والبيئة، جميع منظمات المجتمع المدني وكافة فئات المجتمع إلى تكاتف الجهود في سبيل المحافظة على النظم البيئية في البيئة القطرية كونه جزءا من تراثنا الطبيعي وإرثنا للأجيال القادمة.

من جهته، اعتبر المهندس حسن جمعة بوجمهور المهندي، وكيل الوزارة المساعد لشؤون البيئة بوزارة البلدية والبيئة، أن يوم البيئة العالمي هو أحد أبرز الأحداث التي تحثنا جميعا على مواصلة العمل الدؤوب في المحافظة على البيئة واستدامتها، مبينا أن هذا اليوم يمثل بقعة الضوء التي يتم تسليطها في كل عام على أحد المجالات البيئية الهامة.

وأوضح أن احتفال هذا العام بيوم البيئة العالمي تحت شعار “استعادة النظم البيئية”، يأتي في ظل الحاجة الملحة لاستعادة النظم البيئية على كوكبنا، حيث تدعم النظم البيئية جميع أشكال الحياة على كوكب الأرض، مشيرا إلى أن وزارة البلدية والبيئة دأبت، على غرار السنوات السابقة، على الاحتفال بهذه المناسبة وإحياء هذه الذكرى لما فيها خير على البيئة، وعلى ظروف حياة السكان.

واستعرض وكيل الوزارة المساعد لشؤون البيئة بوزارة البلدية والبيئة، جهود وإنجازات الوزارة في مجال استعادة النظم البيئية والتي لاتزال تسير في تحقيقها بخطى ثابتة وعبر نهج واضح قائم على التخطيط الاستراتيجي المبني على رؤية قطر الوطنية 2030 التي أولت محور البيئة اهتماما مميزا وجعلت التنمية البيئية إحدى ركائزها الأربعة ومنها الخطة الإدارية لمحمية الريم للمحيط الحيوي والمدرجة ضمن الشبكة العالمية لمحميات المحيط الحيوي كأول محمية من نوعها (كمحمية برية) وأحد محميتين اثنتين فقط في منطقة الخليج العربية، مشيرا إلى أن هذه الخطة تهدف بشكل عام إلى صون وتنمية النظم البيئية في المحمية بالشكل الذي يحفظ حق الأجيال الحالية والقادمة في التمتع بإرث المحمية الطبيعي والثقافي.

كما أضاف أن مشروع إعادة تأهيل الروض والبر القطري، بالإضافة إلى مبادرة مليون شجرة، قد ساهما بشكل كبير في المحافظة على الغطاء النباتي في دولة قطر واستدامة الأشجار المرتبطة بالبيئة القطرية والتي كان يعد بعضا منها مهددا بالانقراض، إلى جانب استدامة التنوع الحيوي بشكل عام في البيئة المحيطة بها، مشيدا بجهود كل من شارك في مبادرات الوزارة من مدارس وشركات وجهات حكومية الأمر الذي يعد دليلا على وعي المجتمع بأهمية المحافظة على النظم البيئية في دولة قطر.

وبين المهندس حسن جمعة بوجمهور المهندي، وكيل الوزارة المساعد لشؤون البيئة بوزارة البلدية والبيئة ، أن العمل على استعادة النظم البيئية هو تحد يمكننا عبر العمل الجماعي وتكاتف الجميع تحقيق العديد من الإنجازات على ضوئه والكفيلة بالمحافظة على البيئة والطبيعة لنا وللأجيال المقبلة.
