1st International Waste Management Conference to Kick Off Today

Doha: The 1st International Waste Management Conference, organized by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), will kick off Monday with the participation of representatives governmental and private institutions and international and regional experts and specialists in the field of waste management and disposal.

Assistant Undersecretary for Public Services Affairs at MME Eng. Ahmed Mohammed Al Sada said the Ministry aims to organize the hybrid two-day event to develop a waste management system and promote environmental awareness by shedding light on the most recent waste management methods which seek produce energy, fertilizers, and recyclable materials. It also seeks to promote community participation in environment protection and encourage investment in this field. This conference attracts many governmental and private institutions and international and regional bodies to see and learn about the latest technology in waste management, treatment, and disposal.

He added that the conference is an opportunity to keep up with the latest waste management technologies, including domestic and solid waste, construction and demolition waste, water and soil waste, waste from oil, gas, and petrochemical projects, as well as hazardous, medical and sanitation waste.

Eng. Al Sada noted that the conference will shed light on the achievements of local institutions, entities, companies and factories in environmental technologies and waste recycling and management as well as their commitment to binding international standards in their processes. It will also address their social responsibility activities and provide an opportunity to share experiences and present the latest methods to fight pollution.

According to Eng. Ahmed Al Sada, the two-day International Waste Management Conference will discuss, through presentations, workshops and panel discussions, many topics related to waste management and recycling, including: circular economy (opportunities and challenges), integration between the public and private sectors (mechanism for obtaining land for recycling companies in the Al-Afja area), modern technologies for converting waste into energy, converting waste into fuel, smart management for waste collection and transportation, waste treatment, research and development (opportunities and benefits), management and modern technologies (food waste), and the COVID-19 pandemic (dangerous Medical waste and challenges), new technologies and recycling solutions.

For his part, Director of the Public Relations Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment Abdullah Mohammad Al Falasi confirmed that due to the importance of the International Waste Management Conference, which is organized by the Ministry for the first time, a comprehensive media plan has been prepared through various audio-visual and print media and social media sites to introduce the conference, its goals and various activities, in addition to highlighting the efforts of the State represented by the Ministry in the field of waste management and recycling, as well as raising public awareness of the importance of recycling and its positive implications for the safety of the environment and society.

He pointed out that the holding of the first waste conference considering the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, and after the success of the MME in organizing the Qatar International Agricultural & environmental Exhibition recently, confirms the interest of the State of Qatar represented by the Ministry to develop all its sectors, in implementation of its sustainable strategy and in accordance with the second national strategy 2018-2022 and Qatar National Vision 2030.

Abdullah Al Falasi explained that visual and virtual communication technology will be used to broadcast the conference proceedings and the accompanying sessions directly through the conference website www.wmdoha.com, where specialists and interested people from within the State of Qatar and various countries of the world can follow the sessions and discussions over the next two days.

الدوحة: ينطلق يوم الإثنين مؤتمر إدارة النفايات الدولي الأول الذي تنظمه وزارة البلدية والبيئة بصورة مدمجة واقعيا وعبر الاتصال المرئي بمشاركة عدد من ممثلي المؤسسات والجهات الحكومية وشركات ومصانع القطاع الخاص، ونخبة من الخبراء والمتخصصين المحليين والدوليين في مجال إدارة ومعالجة النفايات.

وأوضح المهندس أحمد محمد السادة وكيل الوزارة المساعد لشؤون الخدمات العامة أن وزارة البلدية والبيئة تهدف من تنظيم هذا المؤتمر الذي يستمر يومين إلى تطوير نظام إدارة النفايات، وإبراز أحدث الطرق في إدارة المخلفات وإنتاج الطاقة والسماد والمواد القابلة للتدوير، ودعم فكرة المشاركة المجتمعية للمحافظة على التنمية المستدامة، وتشجيع الاستثمار في هذا المجال، حيث يستقطب المؤتمر الكثير من المؤسسات الحكومية والقطاع الخاص والجهات الدولية والإقليمية للاطلاع والتعرف على أحدث ما توصلت إليه التكنولوجيا في مجال إدارة ومعالجة النفايات والتخلص منها.

وأضاف أن المؤتمر يعد فرصة لمواكبة أحدث تقنيات إدارة النفايات، بما في ذلك المنزلية والصلبة، ونفايات البناء والهدم، والمياه والتربة، ومشاريع النفط والغاز والبتروكيماويات، وكذلك النفايات الخطرة والطبية والصرف الصحي، كما يلقي الضوء على إنجازات المؤسسات والكيانات والشركات والمصانع المحلية في مجال التقنيات البيئية وإعادة تدوير النفايات وإدارتها والتزامهم بالمعايير الدولية الملزمة في عملياتهم، كما سيتناول المسؤولية الاجتماعية ويوفر فرصة لتبادل الخبرات وتقديم أحدث الأساليب لمكافحة التلوث.

وأفاد المهندس أحمد السادة بأن مؤتمر إدارة النفايات الدولي سيناقش على مدى يومين، من خلال العروض التقديمية وورش العمل والحلقات النقاشية، العديد من الموضوعات المتعلقة بإدارة النفايات وإعادة التدوير، من بينها: الاقتصاد الدائري (الفرص والتحديات)، والتكامل بين القطاعين العام والخاص (آلية الحصول على أرض لشركات إعادة التدوير في منطقة العفجة)، والتقنيات الحديثة لتحويل النفايات إلى طاقة، وتحويل النفايات إلى وقود، والإدارة الذكية لجمع ونقل النفايات، ومعالجة النفايات، والبحث والتطوير (فرص وفوائد)، والإدارة والتقنيات الحديثة (نفايات الغذاء)، وجائحة كورونا (خطورة النفايات الطبية والتحديات)، والتقنيات الحديثة وحلول إعادة التدوير.

من جانبه، أكد السيد عبدالله محمد الفلاسي مدير إدارة العلاقات العامة بوزارة البلدية والبيئة، أنه نظرا لأهمية مؤتمر إدارة النفايات الدولي، الذي تنظمه الوزارة لأول مرة، تم إعداد خطة إعلامية شاملة عبر مختلف وسائل الإعلام المقروءة والمرئية والمسموعة ومواقع التواصل الاجتماعي للتعريف بالمؤتمر وأهدافه وفعالياته المتنوعة، بالإضافة إلى إبراز جهود الدولة ممثلة بالوزارة في مجال إدارة وتدوير النفايات، وكذلك توعية الجمهور بأهمية إعادة التدوير وانعكاساتها الإيجابية على سلامة البيئة والمجتمع.

وأشار إلى إن عقد مؤتمر النفايات الأول في ظل تحديات جائحة كورونا، وبعد نجاح وزارة البلدية والبيئة في تنظيم معرض قطر الزراعي والبيئي الدولي مؤخرا، يؤكد اهتمام دولة قطر ممثلة بالوزارة بتطوير كافة القطاعات التابعة لها، تنفيذا لاستراتيجيتها المستدامة ووفقا للاستراتيجية الوطنية الثانية 2018-2022م ورؤية قطر الوطنية 2030م.

وأوضح السيد عبدالله الفلاسي أنه سيتم استخدام تكنولوجيا التواصل المرئي والافتراضي لبث وقائع المؤتمر والجلسات المصاحبة له مباشرة من خلال الموقع الإلكتروني للمؤتمر www.wmdoha.com ، حيث يمكن للمتخصصين والمهتمين من داخل دولة قطر ومختلف دول العالم متابعة الجلسات والمناقشات على مدى اليومين المقبلين.
