QP to Become 100% Owner of Qatargas (1) on Jan 2022

Doha: Qatar Petroleum (QP) has announced that it will not be renewing the Qatargas Liquefied Natural Gas Company Limited (QG1) joint venture upon the expiry of the relevant agreements on 31 December 2021. As a result, Qatar Petroleum will become the sole owner of 100% of the QG1 assets and facilities on 1 January 2022.

Commenting on this announcement, HE Minister of State for Energy Affairs, the President and CEO of Qatar Petroleum Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi said, “The takeover by Qatar Petroleum will conclude more than 25 years of successful operations of QG1, from which the first ever Qatari LNG cargo was exported. This is a momentous event that highlights Qatar Petroleums efforts to further enhance the utilization of our natural resources for the benefit of our country and its current and future generations as well as to continue serving the worlds need for cleaner energy.”

His Excellency Minister Al Kaabi added, “I would like to thank our valued partners, Total, ExxonMobil, Marubeni and Mitsui for their efforts in the development and operation of QG1 over the past three decades. Each one of them has played an instrumental role in the success of QG1. In particular, I would like to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to Total, for being a foundation shareholder from inception and for their valuable contributions throughout this journey; to ExxonMobil, for stepping in at a critical juncture of the project and leveraging their experience to help making the project a reality; and to Mitsui and Marubeni for their valuable contributions in securing anchor offtakes for the project and for their great support during the early phases.”

“Thanks, and appreciation are also due to Chubu Electric, QG1s foundation customer, for their key role in anchoring this project as the primary LNG buyer as well as to the other Japanese buyers and, of course, the country of Japan as a whole. Furthermore, I would also like to sincerely thank QatarGas operating company leadership and employees for their excellent work and dedication that made this company a success over the last 25 years,” HE said.

With a production capacity of approximately 10 million tons per annum of LNG, QG1 facilities will continue to be operated by Qatargas on behalf of Qatar Petroleum and will play an important role in supplying LNG to the world’s markets in a safe and reliable manner.

Established in 1984, QG1 is a joint venture between Qatar Petroleum and affiliates of Total, ExxonMobil, Marubeni and Mitsui. QG1 was the pioneering LNG project to be developed in Qatar, whose success has paved the way for the development of Qatar’s LNG industry, leading to where it stands today.

الدوحة: أعلنت قطر للبترول أنها ستصبح المالك الوحيد بنسبة 100 بالمئة لجميع أصول ومنشآت شركة قطر للغاز المسال المحدودة “قطر غاز(1)” اعتباراً من الأول من يناير 2022، وذلك عقب انتهاء العمل باتفاقيات المشروع المشترك في 31 ديسمبر 2021.

وقال سعادة المهندس سعد بن شريدة الكعبي، وزير الدولة لشؤون الطاقة، العضو المنتدب والرئيس التنفيذي لقطر للبترول: “يأتي هذا الحدث في ختام ما يزيد على 25 عاماً من العمليات الناجحة لقطرغاز(1)، والتي صدّرت أول شحنة من الغاز الطبيعي المسال القطري. وتشكل هذه الخطوة حدثاً مهماً يسلّط الضوء على جهود قطر للبترول، لتعزيز استغلال مواردنا الطبيعية بما يخدم بلدنا وأجياله الحالية والمستقبلية، ولتلبية احتياجات العالم إلى طاقة نظيفة”.

وأضاف سعادة الوزير الكعبي: “أود أن أشكر شركاءنا المميزين توتال، وإكسون موبيل، وماروبيني، وميتسوي على جهودهم في تطوير وإدارة قطرغاز(1) خلال العقود الثلاثة الماضية، حيث لعب كل منهم دوراً أساسياً في نجاح قطرغاز (1). وأود أن أعرب عن خالص شكري وتقديري لـشركة توتال لكونها مساهماً مؤسساً منذ البداية، ولدعمها القيم طوال هذه الرحلة ولشركة إكسون موبيل لدخولها كشريك في المشروع في منعطف حاسم حيث شكلت خبراتها عاملاً هاماً في تحويل المشروع إلى حقيقة ولكل من شركتي ميتسوي وماروبيني لمساهماتهما القيمة في تأمين المشترين الأوائل لمنتجات المشروع، ولدعمهما الكبير خلال مراحل المشروع المبكرة”.

وتابع سعادة وزير الدولة لشؤون الطاقة :” كما أود أن أقدم شكري إلى شركة كهرباء تشوبو، العميل الأساس لقطرغاز (1) لدورها في ترسيخ هذا المشروع بصفتها المشتري الأول للغاز الطبيعي المسال، وإلى جميع المشترين اليابانيين الآخرين، وبالطبع إلى اليابان ككل. وأود أن أتقدم بالشكر والتقدير للإدارة التنفيذية في قطرغاز ولجميع موظفيها على جهودهم الكبيرة التي بذلوها خلال أكثر من 25 عاما من العمل الدؤوب، والتي لعبت دورا مهما في النجاح الكبير لهذا المشروع الرائد”.

وبقدرتها الإنتاجية التي تقارب عشرة ملايين طن سنوياً من الغاز الطبيعي المسال، ستستمر شركة قطرغاز للتشغيل المحدودة في إدارة وتشغيل مرافق قطرغاز(1) نيابة عن قطر للبترول، وستستمر قطرغاز (1) في لعب دور مهم في توريد الغاز الطبيعي المسال للأسواق العالمية بطريقة آمنة وموثوقة.

يذكر أن قطرغاز (1) تأسست في عام 1984، كمشروع مشترك بين قطر للبترول وشركات تابعة لكل من توتال، وإكسون موبيل، وماروبيني، وميتسوي.

وكان نجاح قطرغاز (1)، المشروع الرائد للغاز الطبيعي المسال الذي تم تطويره في قطر، الحجر الأساس الذي مهد الطريق أمام تطور صناعة الغاز الطبيعي المسال في الدولة لتصل إلى ما هي عليه اليوم.
