Tunisian Economy Minister Commends Successful Qatari Investments in Tunisia

Doha: HE Tunisian Minister of Economy, Finance, and Investment Support Ali Kooli affirmed that the relations between the State of Qatar and his country are old, strong and distinct, pointing to the Tunisian side’s desire to further develop cooperation ties in commerce, industry and investment, whether by the public or private sector.

Speaking during the Qatari-Tunisian Business Forum at the headquarter of the Qatar Chamber on Tuesday, Kooli called on Qatari businessmen to invest in Tunisia, indicating that there exit several concessions for Qatari investors.

He also cited the Qatari successful investments in Tunisia an evident example of the distinguished fraternal relations between both countries, stressing the need for the private sector in the two countries to emulate such projects.

During the meeting, they discussed ways to enhance trade and economic cooperation relations between the private sector in the two countries, ways to enhance trade exchange, as well as enhancing mutual investments, discussing the possibility of establishing alliances between Qatari and Tunisian companies, and reviewing the investment climate and opportunities available in both countries.

On the sidelines of the forum, the Qatar Chamber and the Tunisian Union of Industry and Commerce signed an agreement for establishing a joint businessmen council.

For his part, HE Qatar Chamber’s Chairman Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim Al-Thani, in his speech during the meeting, praised the distinguished fraternal relation between Qatar and Tunisia, noting that these relations have greatly developed within the past few years, especially after the mutual visits of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to Tunisia in February 2020 and the visit of HE President of the Republic of Tunisia Kais Saied to Qatar in November last year.

HE Sheikh Khalifa also said these visits have had a great impact on giving a new impetus to the relations between the two countries, especially on the economic and investment side, indicating that they witnessed signing of many agreements and MOUs which paved the way for business sectors to consolidate cooperation in order to achieve a genuine economic partnership that reflects the strength of these relations and meets the aspirations of the two fraternal countries.

HE also stressed the importance of developing trade exchange between both countries which is still below expectations despite their strong relations and the huge potentials available in bot sides, indicating that there are many joint Tunisian-Qatari companies operating in Qatar in several sectors such as trade, services, contracting, tourism, eateries and real estate.

As for investments, HE Qatar Chamber’s Chairman Sheikh Khalifa said that Qatar is an important partner for Tunisia and that Qatari investments in Tunisia have seen significant development within the past few years, noting that the Qatari private sector owns numerous investments in Tunisia in several vital sectors such as tourism and banks. “Qatar offers a great deal of promising investment opportunities in all fields and industries, especially in services and tourism sectors as the host of FIFA World Cup 2022 approaches” he said

HE added that the State has developed a state-of-the art infrastructure and issued many legislations and laws that improved business and investment environment, as well as it offered plenty of incentives that enhanced its status as a leading and attractive destination for investment. These incentives offer a myriad of opportunities that attract Tunisian investors, he stressed.

QC Chairman also pointed out that the Chamber would organize a business visit for Qatari businessmen to Tunisia to help them learn about the investment opportunities available in Tunisia and review horizons of cementing cooperation in economic and commercial aspects.

On his part, HE President of Tunisian Union for Industry and Commerce Samir Majoul said that the meeting confirmed the keenness on both sides to develop their commercial relations and increase joint investments, pointing to the need to develop their trade volume which is still modest despite their robust relations.

He pointed to the need to focus on promoting joint investment that could be directed to other markets, whether in Africa, Europe, Asia and the Arab world, pointing to the Tunisian side’s desire to achieve economic integration between the two countries.

During the meeting, Investment Promotion Agency of Qatar (IPA Qatar) manager of Investor Relations Hamad Rashid Al Naimi delivered a presentation on Qatar’s investment climate, while Abdelbasset Ghanmi, General Manager at the Foreign Investment Promotion Agency delivered a presentation about investment opportunities available in Tunisia.

For his part, QC Board Member and CEO of the Qatari Manufacturing Company Abdulrahman Al Ansari shared his experience in investment in Tunisia, noting that a feasibility study is in the pipeline for the establishment of an aluminum plant in Tunisia. IPA CEO Sheikh Ali bin Alwaleed Al-Thani commended the cooperation relation between the two countries, stressing the importance of promoting investment opportunities in both sides.

ودعا الكعلي في كلمة ألقاها خلال لقاء الأعمال القطري التونسي المشترك الذي عقدته غرفة قطر، يوم الأمس، رجال الأعمال القطريين إلى الاستثمار في بلدهم الثاني تونس، مشيدا بالتسهيلات والمشاريع والفرص الاستثمارية للمستثمرين القطريين.

وأشار إلى الاستثمارات القطرية الناجحة الموجودة حاليا في تونس، باعتبارها فخرا لتونس وللعلاقات الأخوية بين البلدين، مشددا على ضرورة أن يقتدي القطاع الخاص في البلدين بمثل تلك المشروعات.

وقد تم خلال اللقاء بحث سبل تعزيز علاقات التعاون التجاري والاقتصادي بين القطاع الخاص في البلدين، وسبل تعزيز التبادل التجاري، فضلا عن تعزيز الاستثمارات المتبادلة وبحث إمكانية إقامة تحالفات بين الشركات القطرية والتونسية، واستعراض مناخ الاستثمار والفرص المتاحة في كلا البلدين.

كما تم على هامش اللقاء، توقيع اتفاقية إنشاء مجلس رجال الأعمال بين غرفة قطر والاتحاد التونسي للصناعة والتجارة.

من جانبه، أشاد سعادة الشيخ خليفة بن جاسم آل ثاني رئيس غرفة قطر، في كلمته خلال اللقاء، بالعلاقات الأخوية المتميزة بين البلدين الشقيقين، مؤكدا أن هذه العلاقات شهدت خلال السنوات الأخيرة تطورا متصاعدا في ظل القيادة الحكيمة لقائدي البلدين.

وأكد أن زيارة حضرة صاحب السمو الشيخ تميم بن حمد آل ثاني أمير البلاد المفدى، إلى تونس في شهر فبراير من العام الماضي، وزيارة فخامة الرئيس قيس سعيد رئيس الجمهورية التونسية إلى قطر في شهر نوفمبر الماضي، كان لهما أثر كبير في إعطاء دفعة جديدة للعلاقات بين البلدين الشقيقين، وخصوصا للتعاون الاقتصادي والاستثماري لتعزيز التعاون المشترك، مما أتاح لقطاعات الأعمال الفرصة لمواكبة هذا التطور من خلال بناء جسور التعاون وصولا لتحقيق شراكة اقتصادية حقيقية تعكس قوة هذه العلاقات وتلبي طموحات البلدين الشقيقين.

وأشار سعادته إلى أهمية تعزيز التبادل التجاري الذي لا يزال دون مستوى الطموحات على الرغم من قوة ومتانة العلاقات والإمكانات المتاحة في البلدين، مما يتطلب من القطاع الخاص العمل على تعزيز التجارة البينية من خلال إقامة تحالفات وشراكات بين قطاعات الأعمال في البلدين، لافتا إلى وجود العديد من الشركات القطرية التونسية المشتركة التي تعمل في السوق القطري في مجالات وقطاعات اقتصادية متنوعة أبرزها التجارة والخدمات والمقاولات والصيانة والسياحة والمطاعم والخدمات العقارية.

وعلى الصعيد الاستثماري، قال سعادة الشيخ خليفة بن جاسم آل ثاني رئيس غرفة قطر، إن دولة قطر تعتبر شريكا مهما لتونس، حيث شهدت السنوات الأخيرة مزيدا من الاستثمارات القطرية في تونس، كما يشارك القطاع الخاص القطري بدوره في الاقتصاد التونسي من خلال استثمارات متنوعة في قطاعات حيوية كالسياحة والمصارف وغيرها، لافتا إلى أنه في المقابل فإن دولة قطر تزخر بالعديد من الفرص الواعدة للاستثمار في كافة المجالات والصناعات، إضافة إلى الاستثمار في مجالات السياحة والخدمات، لا سيما مع قرب استضافتها كأس العالم 2022.

وأشاد بالجهود الحثيثة للدولة من أجل تطوير بنيتها التحتية وإصدار التشريعات والقوانين المعززة لبيئة الأعمال والاستثمار، بجانب توفير الحوافز الاستثمارية التي تعزز من مكانتها كوجهة جاذبة للاستثمار، فضلا عن إنشاء المناطق الصناعية والمناطق الحرة التي تتسم بتنافسية عالية وجاهزية للشروع في الأعمال، مما يخلق العديد من الفرص التي يمكن استغلالها من قبل المستثمرين التونسيين.

وأكد سعادة الشيخ خليفة بن جاسم آل ثاني، أن الغرفة ستنظم زيارة لوفد من رجال الأعمال القطريين إلى تونس، للاطلاع على الفرص الاستثمارية المتاحة وتعزيز التعاون التجاري والاقتصادي.

من جهته، قال سعادة السيد سمير ماجول رئيس الاتحاد التونسي للصناعة والتجارة، إن اللقاء يعكس الحرص المشترك على تنمية العلاقات التجارية وتطوير حجم الاستثمارات المشتركة، لافتا إلى أهمية تطوير التبادل التجاري الذي لا يزال ضعيفا رغم قوة العلاقات.

وأشار إلى ضرورة التركيز على النهوض بالاستثمار المشترك الذي يمكن أن يوجه إلى أسواق أخرى سواء في إفريقيا أو أوروبا أو آسيا والعالم العربي، لافتا إلى رغبة الجانب التونسي في تحقيق التكامل الاقتصادي بين البلدين.

وتضمن اللقاء أيضا عرضا تقديميا لوكالة ترويج الاستثمار قدمه السيد حمد راشد النعيمي مدير تطوير الأعمال، واستعرض من خلاله مناخ الاستثمار في قطر، كما قدم السيد عبدالباسط الغانمي مدير عام وكالة النهوض بالاستثمار الخارجي بتونس، عرضا تناول فيه مناخ الاستثمار في تونس والفرص المتاحة، حيث أشار إلى أن دولة قطر تعتبر المستثمر الأول عربيا في تونس، ومن الدول العشر الأولى المستثمرة في تونس على الصعيد العالمي.

وخلال المناقشات تحدث السيد عبدالرحمن الأنصاري عضو مجلس إدارة الغرفة والرئيس التنفيذي للشركة القطرية للصناعات التحويلية، عن تجربته في الاستثمار في تونس، لافتا إلى أنه تجرى حاليا دراسة جدوى لإنشاء مصنع لكبس الألمنيوم في تونس، كما أشاد سعادة الشيخ علي بن الوليد آل ثاني الرئيس التنفيذي لوكالة ترويج الاستثمار بعلاقات التعاون بين الجانبين، مشددا على أهمية الترويج للاستثمار في كل من قطر وتونس وتحقيق شراكة استثمارية قوية بين الطرفين.
