Doha: The Primary Health Care Corporation will begin providing the coronavirus ‘Covid-19’ vaccine, produced by Moderna, at three of the Corporation’s health centers, namely, Al Wajba Health Centre, Leabaib Health Center, and Al Thumama Health Center.

Important information about the Moderna vaccine

• The Moderna vaccine is already being used in many countries around the world as it has been approved as a safe and effective vaccine by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the European Union, the United Kingdom, and the Pharmacy and Drug Control Department of the Ministry of Public Health in Qatar.

• On February 10th, MoPH issued permission for the emergency use of the Moderna vaccine, the second vaccine after Pfizer and BioNTech, to be used by the Ministry in Qatar.

• The Modena vaccine was approved after the Pharmacy and Drug Control Department of MoPH conducted a thorough and extensive study of the vaccine and evaluated the results of clinical studies conducted on tens of thousands of volunteers.

• Moderna’s manufacturer: Moderna US is a biotech company, founded in 2010, based in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

• The Modena vaccine is very similar to Pfizer and BioNTech, so members of the public should not be concerned about which vaccines will be given to them, according to a press release by Dr. Abdullatif Al-Khal, Chairman of the National Health Strategic Group on COVID-19 and Head of Infectious Diseases Department at HMC.

• As is the case with the Pfizer and BioNTech, studies have shown that the Moderna vaccine is about 95% effective in preventing Covid-19 infection.

• The Moderna vaccine is given in two doses such as the vaccine produced by Pfizer and BioNTech.

• The appointment booking process will continue unchanged as PHCC teams contact people who meet the vaccination criteria to book vaccination appointments.

• With the availability of additional quantities of Moderna vaccine during March, the number of health centers that provide both types of vaccines will increase.

• Moderna vaccine is easy to store for 30 days in refrigerators at normal temperatures (2-8°C), compared to Pfizer – BioNTech, making it more needed in areas where there is no special medical potential.

The Moderna vaccine, like Pfizer – BioNTech, relies on mRNA technology that stimulates the body to produce proteins similar to those on the surface of the virus so that the body begins to produce appropriate antibodies, which can counter the real virus if it enters the body.

• مع توفر كميات إضافية من لقاح موديرنا خلال شهر مارس سيتم زيادة عدد المراكز الصحية التي تقدم كلا النوعين من اللقاحات.

• يتميز لقاح “موديرنا” بسهولة تخزينه لمدة 30 يوماً في الثلاجات بدرجات حرارة اعتيادية (2- 8 درجات مئوية)، مقارنة بتلك التي يتطلبها لقاح فايزر – بيونتيك، ما يجعله مطلوباً بشكل أكثر في المناطق التي لا تتوفر فيها إمكانات طبية خاصة.

كيف يعمل؟

يعتمد لقاح موديرنا مثل لقاح فايزر- بيونتيك على تقنية الحمض النووي الريبي المرسال “mRNA” التي تحفز الجسم على إنتاج بروتينات شبيهة بتلك الموجودة على سطح الفيروس، ليبدأ الجسم بإنتاج الأجسام المضادة المناسبة، التي يمكنها مواجهة الفيروس الحقيقي في حال دخوله الجسم.
