MME Launches Campaign to Rehabilitate Fuwairit Beach
الوزارة تطلق حملة إعادة تأهيل شاطئ فويرط

Doha: The Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), represented by the Department of Protection and Wildlife launched a campaign to rehabilitate Fuwairit Beach, in preparation for the turtle nesting season 2021, in collaboration with the Natural Reserves Department, the General Cleanness Department, the Mechanical Equipment Department, the Public Relations Department and Al Shamal Municipality.
On this occasion, Director of the Department of Protection and Wildlife at the MME Talib Khalid Al Shahwani said that this event comes within the framework of the exceptional preparations for this year’s turtle nesting season, based on the decision of the complete closure of the beach and turn it into a special reserve for turtles and sea birds to keep turtles and seabirds from extinction, and the Ministry’s keenness to provide a suitable environment for nesting of the endangered hawksbill sea turtle, which is globally classified in the red list.
He pointed out that the inventory and monitoring operations of the turtle nesting process during the past years showed a remarkable increase in turtle nesting operations in the Fuwairit beach area and the surrounding natural areas.
It is noteworthy that this campaign will continue until March 3, 2021, during which the beach cleaning and waste removal operations will be carried out at the site, beside removing the growth and extensions of mangroves outside the main forest, removing unwanted weeds and forest maintenance and cleaning. At the end of the event, the beach will be completely cleaned.

الدوحة: أطلقت وزارة البلدية والبيئة ممثلة بإدارة الحماية والحياة الفطرية، الأمس، حملة إعادة تأهيل شاطئ فويرط، استعداداً لموسم تعشيش السلاحف2021 ، وذلك بالتعاون مع كل من إدارة المحميات الطبيعية وإدارة النظافة العامة وإدارة الأعتدة الميكانيكية وإدارة العلاقات العامة وبلدية الشمال.
وبهذه المناسبة، قال السيد طالب خالد الشهواني مدير إدارة الحماية والحياة الفطرية بوزارة البلدية والبيئة، إن هذه الفعالية تأتي في إطار التحضيرات الاستثنائية لموسم تعشيش السلاحف لهذا العام، واستناداً إلى قرار الإغلاق الكامل للشاطئ وتحويله إلى محمية خاصة بالسلاحف والطيور البحرية، للحفاظ على السلاحف والطيور البحرية من الانقراض، وحرصا من الوزارة لتوفير بيئة مناسبة لتعشيش السلاحف البحرية صقرية المنقار المهددة بالانقراض، والمصنفة عالمياً في اللائحة الحمراء.
وأشار إلى أن عمليات الحصر والرصد لعملية تعشيش السلاحف خلال الأعوام الماضية بينت تزايدا ملحوظا في عمليات تعشيش السلاحف في منطقة شاطئ فويرط وما حولها من المناطق الطبيعية.
يذكر أن هذه الحملة ستستمر حتى الثالث من مارس المقبل وسيتم خلالها القيام بعمليات تنظيف الشاطئ وإزالة المخلفات بالموقع، وإزالة نموات وامتدادات أشجار القرم خارج الغابة الرئيسية، وكذلك إزالة الأعشاب غير المرغوبة بالموقع، وصيانة الغابة وتنظيفها، وفي نهاية الفعالية سيتم تنظيف الشاطئ كاملا وغربلة الرمل.
