Qatar Charity Fights Blindness in Nigeria

Doha: Qatar Charity has implemented three campaigns to reduce blindness in Nigeria in coordination with the local government and the Ministry of Health.

Qatar Charity work to cover all the needs of the beneficiaries of medical care, including examinations, surgeries, medicines, and eyeglasses, based on its strategy to combat blindness 2018-2020 and the WHO plan.

In Scotu, Kano, and Yobe, the three camps witnessed a great turnout, with more than 3,425 patients examined, and 317 operations were performed.

Doctors also gave educational lectures on preventing eye diseases and awareness of the Coronavirus, and ways to prevent it.

These campaigns were widely welcomed by the local authorities. Commissioner of Health in Yobe state Dr. Adamu Abdullahi hailed the aid provided by Qatar Charity in Nigeria, especially in the health sector, saying that the medical camp to combat blindness in Yobe state was implemented in partnership with the state government, while valuing Qatar Charity’s keenness to provide its services to the poor, needy and orphans in rural areas.

For his part, Commissioner of Health in Scotu state Dr. Muhammad Ali praised this gesture, and said that the medical camp in the state conducted more than 100 surgeries and distributed 600 glasses for patients from poor families and the families of orphans.

According to Qatar Charity strategy to combat blindness 2018-2022, and within its plan, during the next five years, it will provide medical services to eye patients in 14 selected countries.

Medical examination and dispensing of medicines to one million eye patients, 60,000 surgeries will be performed, in addition to training and qualification of 50 doctors in modern eye surgery methods, and the establishment of five centers and clinics specialized in eye diseases and surgery.

Qatar Charity has contributed with many partners to alleviate the causes of visual impairment that lead to blindness in many countries through various programs and activities such as implementing specialized medical camps for eye diseases in many countries, including Yemen, Sudan, and Niger.

الدوحة: نفذت جمعية قطر الخيرية ثلاث حملات لمكافحة العمى في نيجيريا بالتنسيق مع الحكومات المحلية في الولايات المعنية ووزارة الصحة، حيث عملت على تغطية كافة احتياجات المستفيدين من الرعاية الطبية، من فحوصات وعمليات جراحية وأدوية ونظارات طبية، وذلك انطلاقا من استراتيجيتها لمكافحة العمى 2018- 2022 وكذلك خطة منظمة الصحة العالمية.

وشهدت الحملات الثلاث في كل من ولايات /سكوتو/ و/كانو/ و/يوبي/، اقبالا كبيرا حيث تم فحص أكثر من 3425 مريضا وإجراء 317 عملية جراحية لرجال ونساء وأطفال.

كما قدم أطباء متخصصون محاضرات توعوية للوقاية من أمراض العيون، إضافة إلى محاضرات عن فيروس كورونا /كوفيد-19/ وطرق الوقاية منه، إلى جانب تنظيم ورش تدريبية للأطباء المشاركين والفريق الطبي.

ووجدت هذه الحملات ترحيبا واسعا من السلطات المحلية، حيث عبر الدكتور ادامو عبد الله مفوض الصحة بولاية /يوبي/ عن سعادته بما تقدمه قطر الخيرية من مساعدات في نيجيريا خاصة في القطاع الصحي، مشيرا إلى أن المخيم الطبي لمكافحة العمى في ولاية /يوبي/ تم تنفيذه بالشراكة مع حكومة الولاية ، مثمنا حرص قطر الخيرية على تقديم خدماتها للفقراء والمساكين والأيتام في المناطق الريفية.

من جهته، أشاد الدكتور محمد علي مفوض الصحة بولاية /سكوتو/، بهذه اللفتة، وقال إن المخيم الطبي في الولاية شهد إجراء أكثر من 100 عملية جراحية وتوزيع 600 نظارة طبية للمرضى من الأسر الفقيرة وأسر الأيتام.

ووفقا لاستراتيجية قطر الخيرية لمكافحة العمى 2018 – 2022 وضمن خطتها المستقبلية، ستقوم خلال الخمس سنوات القادمة بتقديم الخدمات الطبية لمرض العيون في 14 دولة مختارة وذلك بهدف الحد من حالات ضعف البصر.

كما سيتم الكشف الطبي وصرف أدوية لمليون من مرضى العيون وإجراء 60 ألف عملية جراحية بالإضافة إلى تدريب وتأهيل 50 طبيبا على وسائل جراحة العيون الحديثة وإنشاء خمسة مراكز وعيادات متخصصة لأمراض وجراحة العيون.

وساهمت قطر الخيرية مع العديد من الشركاء في التخفيف من حالات ضعف البصر المؤدية إلى العمى عبر برامج وأنشطة مختلفة مثل تنفيذ مخيمات طبية متخصصة لأمراض العيون في عدد من الدول منها اليمن والسودان والنيجر.
