Qatar and Italy Hold a Roundtable Meeting on Potential Investment Opportunities

Doha: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar in cooperation with Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italy organized a roundtable meeting on the investment opportunities between the two friendly countries, in Doha today.
The State of Qatars delegation was headed by HE the Minister of Transport and Communications Jassim Saif Ahmed Al Sulaiti with participation of HE the Minister of Commerce and Industry Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, HE the Minister of Municipality and Environment Abdulla bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie and CEO of Qatar Investment Authority HE Mansoor bin Ebrahim Al-Mahmoud. The Italian delegation was headed by HE the Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio.
The roundtable discussed enhancing cooperation between the two friendly countries in all fields. HE Minister Al Sulaiti said that the bilateral relations can be described as excellent and unique on all political, economic and even military levels and they are based on mutual respect, trust and common interests between the two countries.
His Excellency also delivered an explanation about the precautionary measures and the financial and economic package of measures that Qatar has taken to combat the Coronavirus pandemic, in addition to Qatars effort in this front to back the international community through offering the necessary aids to more than 70 countries and organizations. He also highlighted the role the national carrier Qatar Airways has been playing since the pandemic began.
Additionally, HE the Minister touched upon the key projects carried out in transportation and communications and plans and programs that MOTC will be carrying out in mobility and communications during hosting FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
In this context, HE the Minister highlighted the role of the Italian firms in strategic projects in mobility and ports sectors in Qatar. He said a consortium led by Salini Impregilo S.p.A. participated in the works of designing and constructing the Red Line of Doha Metro, in addition to the role of C.M Bernardini the leading Italian company specialized in the design and supply of equipment and plants for oils and fats industry, which cooperates as an international consultant on the works of developing and building the Strategic Food Security Facility (SFSF) at Hamad Port.
HE the minister also said that there are large opportunities for business and investment in Qatar, adding there are 40 agreements between Qatar and Italy covering various key industries. Every year, he said, Qatar exports 8 billion cubic meters of gas to Italy which equals nearly 10 percent of Italys needs and the value of Qatars commodity exports with Italy also rose from QR986 million in 2012 to QR5.130 billion in 2019 up more than 420 percent.
He affirmed that work will continue to cement cooperation for the best good and interest of the two nations.
After the roundtable, HE the Minister and the Italian Foreign Minister witnessed the signing of a letter of intent on cooperation in innovation between the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development and Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center.
The roundtable was attended by HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Italy Abdulaziz bin Ahmed Al Malki Al Jehani and HE Ambassador of the Italian Republic to Qatar Alessandro Prunas.

الدوحة: نظمت وزارة الخارجية بالتعاون مع وزارة الخارجية الإيطالية اجتماع طاولة مستديرة، يوم الأمس، في الدوحة حول الفرص الاستثمارية بين البلدين الصديقين.
وبحث الاجتماع تعزيز التعاون بين البلدين في كافة المجالات.
ترأس وفد دولة قطر في الاجتماع، سعادة السيد جاسم بن سيف السليطي وزير المواصلات والاتصالات، ومشاركة سعادة السيد علي بن أحمد الكواري وزير التجارة والصناعة، وسعادة المهندس عبدالله بن عبدالعزيز بن تركي السبيعي وزير البلدية والبيئة، وسعادة السيد منصور إبراهيم آل محمود الرئيس التنفيذي لجهاز قطر للاستثمار.. فيما ترأس وفد جمهورية إيطاليا سعادة السيد لويجي دي مايو وزير الشؤون الخارجية والتعاون الدولي بالجمهورية الإيطالية.
وقال سعادة السيد جاسم بن سيف السليطي وزير المواصلات والاتصالات، إن العلاقات الثنائية بين البلدين يمكن وصفها بأنها علاقات ممتازة ومميزة وعلى جميع المستويات السياسية والاقتصادية وحتى العسكرية، وهي تعتمد في أساسها على الاحترام المتبادل والثقة والمصالح المشتركة بين البلدين.
كما قدم سعادة الوزير شرحاً حول الإجراءات الوقائية إلى جانب حزمة التدابير المالية والاقتصادية التي اتخذتها الدولة لمكافحة جائحة كورونا /كوفيد ـ 19/، بالإضافة إلى جهود دولة قطر في هذا الصدد لدعم المجتمع الدولي من خلال تقديم المساعدات اللازمة لأكثر من 70 دولة ومنظمة دولية، فضلا عن الدور الذي بذلته الناقلة الوطنية /الخطوط الجوية القطرية/ منذ انتشار الجائحة.
إلى جانب ذلك تطرق سعادته إلى أبرز المشاريع التي تمت في قطاع المواصلات والاتصالات، بالإضافة إلى خطط وبرامج الوزارة التي ستتخذها في مجالي النقل والاتصالات خلال استضافة كأس العالم 2022.
وفي هذا السياق، بين سعادة وزير المواصلات والاتصالات، دور الشركات الإيطالية في المشاريع الاستراتيجية لقطاع النقل والموانئ، حيث أوضح مساهمة ائتلاف الشركات بقيادة الشركة الإيطالية /ساليني امبريجيليو/ في أعمال التصميم والبناء في الخط الأحمر لمترو الدوحة، بالإضافة إلى دور شركة /سي دوت إم بي/ الإيطالية المتخصصة بصناعة معامل تكرير وتعليب وتخزين الزيوت النباتية التي تتعاون كاستشاري دولي في أعمال تطوير وإنشاء مرافق مباني ومخازن الأمن الغذائي في ميناء حمد.
ثم بين سعادة وزير المواصلات والاتصالات الفرص الكبيرة للعمل والاستثمار في قطر، وقال إن هناك 40 اتفاقية مبرمة بين بلدينا تشمل مختلف القطاعات المهمة، حيث تصدر قطر إلى إيطاليا 8 مليارات متر مكعب سنويا من الغاز ما يعادل 10 في المئة من احتياجات إيطاليا، كما ارتفعت قيمة الصادرات السلعية لدولة قطر مع جمهورية إيطاليا من 986 مليون ريال عام 2012 إلى 5.130 مليار ريال عام 2019 بزيادة تفوق نسبتها عن 420 في المئة.. مؤكدا على مواصلة العمل لتوطيد هذا التعاون لما فيه رفعة ومصلحة وخير الشعبين.
وعقب الاجتماع، شهد سعادة السيد جاسم بن سيف السليطي وزير المواصلات والاتصالات، وسعادة السيد لويجي دي مايو وزير الشؤون الخارجية والتعاون الدولي بالجمهورية الإيطالية، على توقيع خطاب النوايا حول التعاون في الابتكار، بين مؤسسة قطر للتربية والعلوم وتنمية المجتمع، ومركز الابتكار انتيساسان باولو الإيطالي (Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center).
حضر الاجتماع سعادة السيد عبدالعزيز بن أحمد المالكي، سفير دولة قطر لدى الجمهورية الإيطالية، وسعادة السيد اليساندرو برونس سفير الجمهورية الإيطالية لدى الدولة.
