QRCS Promotes Public Awareness Against Breast Cancer

Doha: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) concluded a series of community awareness sessions on breast cancer, during the Breast Cancer Awareness Month, celebrated globally every October to commemorate the heroic stories of breast cancer survivors and raise awareness among women about the importance of early detection and healthy lifestyles.

Breast cancer is very treatable if detected early. Studies show that early detection of breast cancer can ensure a 100% cure rate.

Over October, QRCS’s Training and Development Center held many awareness events on breast cancer prevention. The health educators delivered an interactive workshop at the headquarters of Mowasalat (Karwa), with all preventive and social distancing measures applied.

Attended by 40 female employees, the session involved informative and practical sections on how to protect against breast cancer. It was praised as beneficial by all the trainees.

Under the QRCS School Program, implemented by QRCS’s Volunteering and Local Development Division in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, two awareness lectures were delivered remotely to 100 students, teachers, administrative staff, and parents at the Moza Preparatory School for Girls and Haleema Al Saadiya KG.

The two lectures focused on the definition, causes, symptoms, and prevention of breast cancer. There was a demonstration on self-examination and guidance to the advanced procedures followed at health care centers across the country.

Throughout the year, QRCS executes a breast cancer awareness and training program that involves distributing health education publications at public events and health exhibitions, as well as posting awareness and prevention messages on the website and social media platforms.

The purposes of these activities are to promote knowledge among women, encourage self-examination on a monthly basis and routine screening on a yearly basis, and pay attention to healthy food and exercising.

In Lebanon, QRCS worked together with Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) to deploy mobile medical clinics for early detection of breast cancer among Syrian refugees and the host community. Also, informative fliers were distributed to women at streets and shop owners. Dozens of health education sessions were held at Syrian refugee camps and woman care organizations.

To exchange technical and medical expertise in relation to early diagnosis of breast cancer, QRCS’s mission in Lebanon cooperated with Jordan’s King Hussein Cancer Center, to discuss the results of the breast cancer project, which involved free-of-charge services including radiography, ultrasound imaging, medical examinations, and surgeries.

الدوحة:اختتم الهلال الأحمر القطري، سلسلة من محاضرات التوعية المجتمعية حول مرض سرطان الثدي، وذلك بمناسبة شهر التوعية بهذا المرض الذي يحييه العالم خلال شهر أكتوبر من كل عام.

وتهدف هذه الفعالية إلى تسليط الضوء على بطولات المكافحات والناجيات من هذا المرض، ورفع مستوى الوعي الصحي لدى النساء حول أهمية الكشف المبكر، وتشجيعهن على اتباع نمط حياة صحي.

وتأتي أهمية التوعية والكشف المبكر عن سرطان الثدي من كونه يصنف ضمن الأمراض التي تستجيب للعلاج، من خلال الوقاية المبكرة والقابلة للشفاء، إذ تشير الدراسات إلى أن الكشف المبكر عن سرطان الثدي يعزز فرص الشفاء من المرض بنسبة تصل إلى 100%.

وطوال شهر أكتوبر المنصرم، نظم الهلال الأحمر القطري العديد من الفعاليات التوعوية للوقاية من سرطان الثدي، حيث قدم ورشة عمل تفاعلية بمقر شركة مواصلات /كروة/ حضرتها 40 سيدة من موظفات الشركة، وتضمنت جانباً توعوياً وآخر تدريبياً حول الوقاية من سرطان الثدي، مما كان له فائدة كبيرة ولاقى رضا المشاركات.

كما تم تنظيم ورشتين توعويتين عن بعد بالتعاون مع وزارة التعليم والتعليم العالي، لفائدة 100 مشاركة من الطالبات والمدرسات والمشرفات وأولياء الأمور بمدرسة موزة الإعدادية للبنات وروضة حليمة السعدية، شملتا التعريف بالمرض وأسبابه وأعراضه وأهمية الوقاية منه.

ولم تقتصر جهود الهلال الأحمر القطري على المستوى المحلي فقط، حيث سبق له تنفيذ العديد من الأنشطة في هذا الجانب خارج قطر، من أبرزها إطلاق عدة حملات لإجراء فحوصات الأشعة مجاناً في لبنان، بالشراكة مع الهلال الأحمر الكويتي، من خلال تسيير عيادات متنقلة في عدة مناطق للكشف عن أمراض الثدي لدى اللاجئات السوريات والمجتمع المضيف، وتوزيع منشورات توعية على النساء وأصحاب المحال التجارية، وتنظيم عشرات المحاضرات التوعوية داخل مخيمات اللاجئين السوريين والمنظمات المهتمة بالشأن النسائي.

وكان هناك تعاون بين بعثة الهلال الأحمر القطري في لبنان و/مركز الحسين للسرطان/ في الأردن، في إطار تبادل الخبرات الطبية والتقنية في مجال الكشف المبكر عن سرطان الثدي، والاطلاع على تفاصيل التجربة الناجحة لمشروع سرطان الثدي الذي تنفذه البعثة.
