Daily Mail: new Coronavirus strain infects 10 animals including sheep and cows

A recent study, published in the Daily Mail, revealed that the new strain of coronavirus may have evolved into cats and many farm animal species, including sheep, goats and cows.
Researchers at China’s Hunan University have studied the lung structures of 251 different animals to determine which can be infected with “Coved 19” by contacting bats or humans, the British newspaper quoted a scientific report published in a journal run by the world-renowned Pasteur Institute in Paris.
The results indicate that, in addition to infecting bats and humans, the virus has developed its ability to infect at least 10 other animals.
The danger list includes cats, cows, goats, pigs, sheep, buffalo escrows and pigeons, raising the possibility that the virus, having jumped from humans to these mammals, may turn into new, more deadly forms that can then appear to infect people again.
According to the Daily Mail, the study team is led by Cheng Yi-ji, a virologist who previously worked at the Wuhan Center for Emerging Infectious Diseases.
The report adds that this occurred in SARS 2003, when the virus was transmitted from bats to humans by cats and raccoons.
To create a list of dangerous species, scientists studied the structure of the protein receptor on animal cells, the receptor through which Covid-19 enters human cells and automates the cell to create copies that infect other cells.
Although the origin of the virus is indicated in bats, the new study says it is unlikely that bats have transmitted the virus to humans through direct contact, as this is very rare.
Simon Wayne Hobson of the Pasteur Institute, one of Europe’s leading virologists, says the new Chinese study could have worrying implications.
“So far, no live virus has been isolated from any of the animals on our list,” said the study’s author Cheng adding that the research is still in its early stages. However, some early studies have reported that animals such as cats have blood tests positive with THE Coronavirus.”

كشفت دراسة حديثة، نشرتها صحيفة “ديلي ميل”، عن أن السلالة الجديدة من فيروس كورونا، ربما تكون تطورت لإصابة القطط والعديد من أنواع حيوانات المزرعة ومنها الأغنام والماعز والأبقار.
ونقلت الصحيفة البريطانية عن تقرير علمي نشرته مجلة يديرها معهد باستور المشهور عالميا في باريس، أن باحثين في جامعة هونان الصينية قاموا بدراسة هياكل الرئة لـ 251 حيوانا مختلفا، لتحديد أيها يمكن أن يصاب بـ “كوفيد 19” من خلال الاتصال مع الخفافيش أو البشر.
وتشير النتائج إلى أنه، إلى جانب إصابة الخفافيش والبشر، طور الفيروس قدرته على إصابة 10 حيوانات أخرى على الأقل.
وتشمل قائمة الخطر القطط والأبقار والماعز والخنازير والأغنام والجاموس والحمام، ما يثير احتمال بأن الفيروس، بعد أن قفز من البشر إلى هذه الثدييات، قد يتحول إلى أشكال جديدة أكثر فتكا يمكن أن تظهر بعد ذلك لإصابة الناس مرة أخرى.

ويضيف التقرير أن هذا حدث في مرض السارس 2003، عندما انتقل الفيروس من الخفافيش إلى البشر عن طريق القطط والراكون.
ولإنشاء قائمة الأنواع الخطرة، درس العلماء بنية مستقبل البروتين على الخلايا الحيوانية وهو المستقبل الذي يدخل من خلاله كوفيد – 19 الخلايا البشرية ويتولى آلية الخلية لإنشاء نسخ تصيب الخلايا الأخرى.
ورغم ما يشار عن نشأة الفيروس في الخفافيش، لكن الدراسة الجديدة تقول إنه من غير المحتمل أن تكون الخفافيش نقلت الفيروس إلى البشر من خلال الاتصال المباشر، لأن ذلك نادر جدا.
ويقول سيمون واين هوبسون، من معهد باستور، أحد أبرز خبراء الفيروسات في أوروبا، إن الدراسة الصينية الجديدة قد تكون لها آثار مثيرة للقلق.
وقال معد الدراسة تشنغ إن البحث في مراحله الأولية، مضيفا: “لم يُعزل أي فيروس حي حتى الآن من أي من الحيوانات في قائمتنا. ومع ذلك، أفادت بعض الدراسات المبكرة بأن الحيوانات مثل القطط ذات اختبارات دم إيجابية بفيروس كورونا”.
