There are only two centi-billionaires in the world and they are both men: Amazon’s Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates, the richest men in the world. But women are closing in – here’s a look at 5 possible contenders

While most of us are just waiting for payday, a few fantastic females are on their way to achieving “centi-billionaire” status – a billionaire worth US$100 billion.

To date, only two billionaires have hit the centi-billionaire mark. They are, perhaps unsurprisingly, the big boys of tech: Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Microsoft founder Bill Gates.

But in 10 years, we could be seeing our first female centi-billionaire enter this exclusive segment.

1. Jacqueline Mars

Company: Mars, Inc.

Real-time net worth: US$28.9 billion

Estimated time to centi-billion: 28 years

American heiress Jacqueline Mars shares ownership of Mars Inc, the world’s largest confectioner. According to RS Components, Ms Mars is expected to hit US$100 billion when she turns 108 (we’d advise against overindulging in Mars bars, in that case).

2. Yang Huiyan

Company: Country Garden Holdings

Real-Time Net Worth: US$23.3 billion

Estimated Time to Centi-Billion: 24 years

Just ahead of Mars in the race to US$100 billion is Yang Huiyan, the Chinese property developer and shareholder of Country Garden Holdings. The richest woman in Asia, Huiyan’s fortunes soared after her father transferred his controlling stake in the company to her in 2007.

3. Gina Rineheart

Company: Hancock Prospecting

Real-Time Net Worth: US$15.8 billion

Estimated Time to Centi-Billion: 20 years

At 65 years old, Gine Rineheart is a veteran of the billionaire’s club. According to Forbes, the biggest portion of her wealth comes from the Roy Hill mining project, which began shipments to Asia in 2015.

Rineheart is expected to reach US$100 billion in 20 years, at the age of 85.

4. Mackenzie Bezos

Company: Amazon

Real-time net worth: US$39.1 billion

Estimated time to centi-billion: 16 years

Mackenzie Bezos became the world’s third-richest woman after a hefty divorce settlement from husband and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. As part of the divorce settlement, Bezos will have a 4 per cent stake in Amazon, which will amount to around US$38 billion.

In May, Mackenzie Bezos committed at least half of her fortune to Bill Gates and Warren Buffett’s charity initiative, the Giving Pledge. She joins an elite group of donors, including Mark Zuckerberg and Richard Branson.

5. Françoise Bettencourt Meyers

Company: L’Oréal

Real-time net worth: US$55.1 billion

Estimated time to centi-billion: nine years

Topping our list is Françoise Bettencourt Meyers, the French heiress to the L’Oreal fortune. The richest woman in the world is set to join the centi-billionaire club in just nine years.

Meyers became the L’Oreal heiress when her mother Liliane Bettencourt died in 2017.

Since the beginning of 2019, the French elite from the 500-member Bloomberg Billionaires Index, including Meyers, have amassed the fastest-growing fortunes in the world.

وإلى جانب جاكلين، من المرجح أن تصل سيدة الأعمال الصينية يانغ هويان إلى نادي الـ «100 مليار دولار» في غضون 24 سنة، وثروتها الحالية تناهز 23.3 مليار دولار. أما سيدة الأعمال الأسترالية، جينا راينهارت، فستلتحق بهذا النادي الثري بعد عشرين عاماً على الأرجح، وسيكون عمرها في الخامسة والثمانين.

لكن طليقة مؤسس «أمازون» ماكينزي بيزوس قد تتخطى الـ 100مليار دولار في مدة أقصر لا تتجاوز 16 سنة، لأن ثروتها الحالية تقدر بـ 39.1 مليار دولار.

والمرشحة بقوة للصدارة النسائية في نادي الـ «100مليار دولار» هي سيدة الأعمال الفرنسية فرانسواز بيتينكورت ميريس، التي راكمت ثروة من 55.1 مليار دولار.
