Speaker of Shura Council meets heads of international parliaments

Doha: The Speaker of the Shura Council, H E Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud, met yesterday with Duarte Pacheco, Chair of the Twelve Plus Group, European countries,Canada, Australia and New Zealand in the Inter-Parliamentary Union and his accompanying delegation.
The meetings discussed relations between Shura Council and the parliamentary group, which is composed 48 members representing all parliaments of European countries, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. They also discussed ways to support, develop and strengthen such relations in various areas of parliamentary work.
The two sides also reviewed the ongoing arrangements for the 140th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and its related meetings, slated for the period from April 6 to 10 in Doha.
Duarte Pacheco praised the progress of these arrangements and the keenness exhibited by the Speaker of the Shura Council, and the Council’s officials to complete these arrangements in the best possible way and to provide all that would ensure the success of the 140th session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and its related meetings, in order to make it a special session and an important platform for activating the joint inter-parliamentary work, and reaffirming its role in deepening relations between peoples, developing international cooperation and maintaining international security and peace.
A number of Shura Council officials attended the meetings.
اجتمع سعادة السيد أحمد بن عبد الله بن زيد آل محمود رئيس مجلس الشورى اليوم مع سعادة السيد دوارتي باتشيكو رئيس مجموعة برلمانات الدول الأوروبية وكندا وأستراليا ونيوزيلندا في الاتحاد البرلماني الدولي والوفد المرافق له.
وجرى خلال الاجتماع بحث علاقات التعاون بين مجلس الشورى والمجموعة البرلمانية، والتي تضم 48 عضواً يمثلون جميع برلمانات الدول الأوروبية وكندا وأستراليا ونيوزلندا، وسبل دعمها وتطويرها في مختلف مجالات العمل البرلماني.
كما تم استعراض الترتيبات الجارية لانعقاد الجمعية العامة الـ140 للاتحاد البرلماني الدولي والاجتماعات المصاحبة والتي ستعقد في الدوحة خلال الفترة من 6 إلى 10 أبريل القادم.
وأشاد سعادة السيد دوارتي باتشيكو بسير هذه الترتيبات وما وجده من حرص لدى سعادة رئيس مجلس الشورى والمسؤولين في المجلس على إكمال هذه الترتيبات على أفضل وجه وتوفير كل ما من شأنه إنجاح الدورة الـ 140 للاتحاد البرلماني الدولي والاجتماعات المصاحبة وجعلها دورة متميزة ومنصة مهمة لتفعيل العمل البرلماني الدولي المشترك ، وتأكيد دوره في تعميق العلاقات بين الشعوب وتطوير التعاون الدولي وحفظ الأمن والسلام العالمي. وحضر الاجتماع عدد من المسؤولين بمجلس الشورى.
