Qatar, UN sign pact on fighting corruption in sports

Vienna: The Doha-based Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Center (ROLACC), signed an agreement on fighting sports corruption with United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
The agreement was signed by Chairman of the Board of Trustees of ROLACC Ali bin Fetais Al Marri, who is also UNODC Special Regional Advocate for the Prevention of Corruption with UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UNODC Yury Fedotov.
The agreement aims to work on fighting corruption in the sports field in all its shapes and forms as well as highlight the different ways of corruption found in various sports through the cooperation of ROLACC with UNODC.
In a statement to QNA, Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al Marri said the agreement will seek to help world states, organizations and related entities to fight corruption in clubs and associations whether in football or all other sports.
He added that the agreement makes the State of Qatar and the UN partners in the attempt to stop corruption in the sports in all its forms. Al Marri said corruption in sport takes various forms, such as bets, suspicious transactions and other corrupt matters.
He said the agreement will support sports entities around the world with rule of law and anti-corruption by training them on quality and governance within clubs and associations.
Al Marri said there will be joint coordination between ROLACC and the UN to carry out training courses and forums with sports entities and associations around the world, in participation with experts from international organizations, all in aim to train those in the field on fighting corruption in the sports field.

وقع على الاتفاقية سعادة الدكتور علي بن فطيس المري النائب العام، رئيس مجلس أمناء مركز حكم القانون ومكافحة الفساد، محامي الأمم المتحدة لمحاربة الفساد، وسعادة السيد يوري فيدوتوف مساعد الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة، المدير التنفيذي لمكتب الأمم المتحدة المعني بالمخدرات والجريمة.
وتهدف الاتفاقية التي تم توقيعها في فيينا، إلى العمل على محاربة الفساد في المجال الرياضي بجميع أنواعه وأشكاله وتسليط الضوء على مظاهر الفساد في مختلف الألعاب الرياضية، من خلال التعاون بين مركز حكم القانون ومكتب الأمم المتحدة المعني بالمخدرات والجريمة.
وقال سعادة الدكتور علي بن فطيس المري في تصريح خاص لوكالة الأنباء القطرية «قنا»، إن الاتفاقية ستسعى إلى مساعدة دول العالم والمنظمات والأجهزة المعنية على محاربة الفساد داخل الأندية والاتحادات الرياضية، سواء في رياضة كرة القدم أو مختلف الرياضية الأخرى.
وأضاف أن الاتفاقية تجعل من دولة قطر والأمم المتحدة شركاء في محاولة منع الفساد في القطاع الرياضي بمختلف أشكاله وأنواعه، حيث إن الفساد في الرياضة يتخذ صوراً وأشكالاً مختلفة مثل الرهانات والصفقات المشبوهة وغيرها من الأمور التي يشوبها فساد في هذا القطاع الهام.
وأوضح سعادة الدكتور المري أنه من خلال هذه الاتفاقية ستتم مساعدة الأجهزة الرياضية في كافة دول العالم في موضوع حكم القانون ومحاربة الفساد من خلال التدريب على مسائل الجودة والحوكمة داخل الأندية والأجهزة الرياضية.;
