FIFA, UEFA blast Saudi-based TV piracy network

Geneva: In their strongest attack yet on broadcasting theft, soccer’s governing bodies and top leagues have condemned Saudi Arabia-backed pirate network beoutQ.

FIFA, UEFA, the English Premier League, La Liga, the German Bundesliga and the Asian Football Confederation weighed in on Tuesday by blasting beoutQ’s actions as “a clear and flagrant breach of our intellectual property rights”.

Doha-based beIN Media Group have described beoutQ as a vast and sophisticated Saudi bootlegging network that has been transmitting stolen programmes via Riyadh-based satellite provider Arabsat.

“Collectively, we, as rights-holders in various football competitions, condemn the pirate entity beoutQ, which continues to abuse the operations of rights holders and legitimate broadcasters through its persistent and illegal screening of events for which it has made no effort to secure the rights,” the powerful football bodies said in a joint statement.

“beoutQ’s piracy harms not only us, as rights holders, but also our legitimate licensees and, ultimately, the fans of our competitions.”

The soccer bodies said they would work with partners and “relevant authorities” to enforce intellectual property rights.

FIFA and the Premier League have previously said they were preparing to take legal action in Saudi Arabia against the pirates.

In October, beIN launched a compensation claim worth $1 billion (880 million euros) against the Saudi piracy channel while Qatar filed an action at the World Trade Organization.

The AFC said on Jan. 9 that it was taking legal action in Saudi Arabia against beoutQ for illegal broadcasts of the Asian Cup, the region’s biggest football tournament which is being played in the United Arab Emirates.
The Premier League said last week it had appointed legal counsel to take action in Saudi Arabia against beoutQ.

أصدر الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم «الفيفا» بياناً مشتركاً بشأن عمليات القرصنة التي تقوم بها «beoutQ».

وأوضح «الفيفا»، في بيانه المشترك، أنه وبالاتفاق مع الاتحاد الأوروبي لكرة القدم والاتحاد الآسيوي لكرة القدم وروابط الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز والدوري الإسباني والدوري الألماني، سيتخذون الإجراءات اللازمة لإيقاف عمليات القرصنة التي تقوم بها «beoutQ»، كما نددوا مجدداً بالأدوار التي يقوم بها هذا الكيان.

جاء في البيان: «بشكل جماعي، بصفتنا أصحاب حقوق في مختلف مسابقات كرة القدم، ندين كيان القرصنة (beoutQ)، الذي يواصل إساءة استخدام عمليات أصحاب الحقوق، وآخر مثال على ذلك هو كأس آسيا – الإمارات 2019»، مشيراً إلى أن بثّ الأحداث يعدّ غير قانوني إذ لم تُبذل أي جهود من أجل تأمين الحقوق الشرعية لها». وتابع البيان: «تعتبر نشاطات (beoutQ) انتهاكاً واضحاً وصارخاً لحقوق الملكية الفكرية لدينا، قرصنة (beoutQ) لا تضر بنا فقط كأصحاب حقوق»، مؤكداً أن ذلك يضر أيضاً بالجهات المرخص لها بإذاعة وبثّ هذه الحقوق، والجماهير العاشقة لبطولات كرة القدم. وأضاف «الفيفا» أن الأموال التي يتم جمعها من بيعه للحقوق تساهم بشكل كبير في تطوير وتنمية الألعاب الرياضية المسؤول عنها، موضحاً أن القرصنة تقتل هذا الاستثمار. وختم: «سنعمل بشكل وثيق مع الشركاء والسلطات المعنية لفرض ودعم حقوق الملكية الفكرية لدينا ووضع حدّ لقضية القرصنة على نطاق واسع ولصالح الجميع».;
