Palestinian teen released from Israeli prison

Israeli authorities on Sunday released Palestinian teen Ahed al-Tamimi and her mother from prison after an 8-month detention.
“The Palestinian people will continue their struggle against the Israeli occupation,” al-Tamimi told reporters upon her release in her hometown Nabi Saleh village, west of the West Bank city of Ramallah.
“The occupation is doomed to end and [Israeli] detention will not break our will,” the 17-year-old teenager added.
After her release, al-Tamimi laid a wreath of flowers on the tomb of late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat and met with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas at his Ramallah complex.
“The peaceful popular resistance is the best weapon against the Israeli arrogance to show the barbarism of the occupation to the whole world,” Abbas said during the meeting, according to the official Wafa news agency.
He said the symbol of resistance drawn by al-Tamimi “will prove to the world that our Palestinian people will continue to hold on their land, no matter the sacrifices are”.
Al-Tamimi has turned into a Palestinian resistance icon after she was filmed while slapping an Israeli soldier during a raid on her home to arrest her brother.
Israeli forces arrested the Palestinian girl in December and an Israeli court gave her an 8-month detention in March for “attacking” an Israeli soldier.
A defiant al-Tamimi thanked all supporters who stood by her and her family during her detention.
“The Palestinian prisoners are in a high spirit and I carry a message from them that I will reveal this evening,” al-Tamimi said.
In 2012, Istanbul’s Basaksehir Municipality granted al-Tamimi the prestigious Hanzala Courage Award for defying Israeli soldiers who had just arrested her brother.

أفرجت سلطات الاحتلال الإسرائيلي، صباح أمس الأحد، عن «أيقونة فلسطين» عهد التميمي ووالدتها ناريمان، بعد انقضاء مدة الحكم عليهما بالسجن ثمانية أشهر. وتحدّثت التميمي، في مؤتمر صحافي بقريتها، عن أوضاع 29 أسيرة فلسطينية كُنّ معها بسجن دامون، وأوضحت أن السجينات حمّلنها ثلاث رسائل؛ هي مطالبة بالوحدة الوطنية، ودعم وتعزيز الصمود الشعبي، ودعم الأسيرات في نضالهن من أجل الحرية.
قالت التميمي إن الشيء الوحيد الذي كان يسبّب لها ضغطاً وهي في السجن هو تخوّفها من فقدان دراستها، ولكن العكس هو ما وقع؛ إذ أتمت هي والأسيرات مستوى التوجيهي، وقرّرن تسمية أنفسهن «فوج التحدي».
وقالت التميمي، في مؤتمر صحافي عُقد فور وصولها إلى قرية النبي صالح: «إن الشعب الفلسطيني مستمر في مقاومته للاحتلال حتى زواله، والاعتقال لن يكسرنا».
واعتُقلت التميمي في 19 ديسمبر الماضي، بعد تمديد حبسها عدة مرّات، بزعم إعاقة عمل ومهاجمة جنود الاحتلال في بلدتها «النبي صالح» في الضفة الغربية.
وقُبيل اعتقالها، انتشر مقطع فيديو ظهرت فيه «عهد» مع ابنة عمها نور التميمي، وهما تقتربان من جنديين إسرائيليين حاولا اقتحام منزلها، وتطلبان منهما مغادرة المكان.
وأصدرت المحكمة العسكرية الإسرائيلية في سجن «عوفر» -قرب رام الله- حكماً بالسجن الفعلي 8 أشهر على «عهد» في 21 من مارس الماضي، واستطاع محامو الدفاع عن الفتاة الفلسطينية التوصل إلى اتفاق مع النيابة العسكرية.
وعلى جانب آخر، استشهد فلسطينيان صباح أمس، جرّاء قصف قوات الاحتلال الإسرائيلي شرق بلدة جباليا، شمال قطاع غزة.
وذكرت وكالة الأنباء الفلسطينية أن شابّين استُشهدا إثر إصابتهما بشظايا صاروخ أطلقته عليهما طائرة إسرائيلية من دون طيار.
وأضافت أن جثماني الشهيدين أيمن نافذ النجار (24 سنة)، ومهند ماجد حمودة (24 سنة)، وصلا إلى المستشفى.
واعتقل الاحتلال 9 فلسطينيين، منهم 5 من بلدة كوبر برام الله، و3 آخرين من بلدة الخضر في بيت لحم.
كما اعتقلت تلك القوات مواطنة فلسطينية من مدينة الخليل، وأغلقت مدخل المدينة الشرقي بيت عينون، ومدخل بلدة سعير.;
